Thu Phong - a musical color

(Baonghean) - What impresses the music audience most about singer Thu Phong is that when she sings, she can make the listener fully imagine the story that the author wants to convey through music. This is the artistic quality that was formed in Phong since she was a little girl who was only familiar with singing on village school stages.

Thu Phong's real name is Le Thi Phong, born and raised in Quynh Vinh - Hoang Mai Town. Since childhood, Phong has been an artist on most of the big and small stages where she lived. She was invited to sing not only because she sang well but also because she was "addicted to singing". Whenever there was a ceremony, Tet, or award ceremony, she always had the intention of "wanting to be invited to sing".

The innocent years passed with the beautiful melodies of childhood. Thu Phong was not only known in the village, where she studied at the school, but also rumored in neighboring communes and villages, "both beautiful and good at singing". That was because right from her school days, she had won many big and small awards and was the best hymn singer in the churches.

Then Phong passed the entrance exam to the Hue Academy of Music with high scores and began a new journey, the journey to become a professional singer. Although he chose the right major that he liked and was good at, studying vocal music according to a systematic curriculum was really difficult.

The schedule, morning vocal practice, afternoon lessons, evening practice or performance if scheduled, sometimes made Thu Phong feel extremely tired. Tired from the lessons and tired from the curriculum requirements that at first she had difficulty getting into.

Phong said: “My voice is not really beautiful, it just flies, but when learning basic vocal music, just “flying” is not enough to perform the song, you need steel and metal to express difficult notes”. However, the same factors that Phong considers weaknesses are advantages when she takes advantage of them in pop songs. If you listen to Phong sing on stage, the listener will feel the clarity, sophistication but also full of emotion.

On the stage of “The Voice of Nghe An” in mid-May, it was not difficult to recognize Thu Phong’s color next to the beautiful voices of Bich Huan and Phuong Linh. Because besides the great voices, Thu Phong only considered herself a junior, but what made her confident was not that she possessed the techniques of the school but because she did not have the mentality of going to the competition, for Phong, going to the competition was to perform for the audience and satisfy her passion.

Phong said: "I don't know if it's because of fate, but as soon as I was guided to choose the song "Calling You", I felt like the song was written for me." Simply because "Calling You" is not only a song that suits Phong's voice but also her harmony with the lyrical character in the work, making her feel most like herself when performing.

After Phuong Linh performed “Nha Que” perfectly, Bich Huan gave the audience goosebumps with “Doc Huyen Cam”, Thu Phong sang “Goi Anh” sweetly, passionately and fiercely, making the whole audience that day exclaim in admiration. And so the audience was truly pleased and satisfied when Thu Phong won the first prize in the light music style - The First Nghe An Voice.

After being named as the highest position in this competition, Thu Phong was specially invited to the final round of Sao Mai 2017 in the Central Highlands region. However, after the preliminary round in the final round, she was not present in the final competition night. When asked about the feeling of "losing", Phong just smiled sadly: "This is a big competition, it is normal that I was not selected, besides the singing factor, to win prizes in competitions, luck also plays a large part."

However, when asked: "Do you want to continue to conquer music competitions?" Phong still confidently answered: "Yes, I compete to perform". Because competing is a hobby, during 2 years of studying in Hue, Thu Phong has achieved many achievements from competitions such as: Champion of the Summer Solo Competition organized by Hue City Youth Union in 2016, Top 5 of the music talent search program in Hue.

The musical path is still long, Thu Phong always determines to study well, cultivate many skills and stage presence to become a professional singer, to work in a professional environment. Asked: "So moving to the South is the path you will choose?" - Phong smiled: "No, unfortunately my parents do not agree when I go to the South, because they are afraid of traps, afraid of fierce competition in the world of artists, especially singers."

So for Phong, returning to Vinh City, his hometown city, is the safest choice. "Because in Vinh I can compete and have the opportunity to shine, so why not contribute another musical color to Vinh - me?"
