Thu Quynh: "My son asked to turn off the TV when he saw his mother being beaten in a movie"
"Mom, turn off the TV! Your movie is scary, don't watch it anymore," Thu Quynh's son, Be, suggested while watching the movie "Quynh Doll".
Appearing at an event in Hanoi, Thu Quynh was surrounded by many audiences, especially children, asking for photos and asking about the role of My Soi in the movie.Quynh dollThe actress was very happy because this was her first role and she received attention from audiences of many different ages.
Thu Quynh said that her 3-year-old son, Be, often sits next to her while his mother and grandmother watch movies. Be was very excited to see his mother on TV, so he watched the movie from the first episodes. However, in recent episodes, there were scenes of his mother being beaten, so Be felt scared and often said: "Mom, turn off the TV! Your movies are scary, don't watch anymore."
Thu Quynh has a 3-year-old son from her previous marriage with actor Chi Nhan. |
When asked why children are not recommended to watch movies under 18, Thu Quynh expressed her opinion: "Be doesn't always sit and watch attentively, but often watches while playing or running around. I think how to let children watch to form good awareness for them depends on parents. With movies like this, parents should not let their children explore and watch alone, understand on their own, but must be there to explain. If adults know how to show their children what is wrong and that they should not follow this path, then this is a very good educational movie."
Besides the compliments, Thu Quynh also suffered a lot of trouble because of the role of My Soi. From episode 7 until now, every day she receives messages of scolding and cursing from extremist viewers. For these people, she often ignores them, pretends not to read the messages or blocks them on Facebook... Some students at the secondary school she used to attend even use her image to say bad things about the school. Every time like that, Thu Quynh often takes time to comment, reminding them not to do so.

Apart from some annoying cases, Thu Quynh did not feel hurt by the hateful comments about her role. "Before the film aired, I was aware that I would have to accept those things if the role reached the audience. I am happy that people reacted like that because that partly confirms that My Soi has made an impression. For an actor, making the audience hate is not an easy thing. I would only feel sad if someone said that this role I played was boring," Thu Quynh said.
According to the actress, My Soi is completely different from her in real life, from personality to the way she dresses and walks. That makes her even more interested in learning about the character. She explores and is more creative in her acting instead of thinking in a stereotyped way. The actress does not infiltrate prostitution dens to learn and gain life experience, but studies American movies about strippers. Besides, she extracts material from literature and real life to build the character. Thu Quynh believes that My Soi represents the hidden parts in everyone's heart. Therefore, she tells herself to find her own hidden corner, remember the feelings of being angry but still having to smile, showing off but not being satisfied to portray the character. For Thu Quynh, being accepted into a role like My Soi is a blessing that not every actress can have. This is also the role that has left her with the most emotions since pursuing an acting career.
In the movieQuynh doll, Thu Quynh plays My Soi - a villain who always wants to compete for the vedette position when working as a prostitute. Because of her jealousy and often harming others, My is hated by many people. The more isolated she is, the more she bristles, hurting the people around her.
