(Baonghean) - When talking about typical examples of good farmers and businessmen in Nghia Dan district, we cannot help but mention the family of Ms. Nguyen Thi Chau in Phu Loc hamlet, Nghia Phu commune, with a model of raising super lean pigs combined with diversified business of many products, bringing in annual profits of up to 1 billion VND.

As a grown-up child of the 22/12 State Farm, Nguyen Thi Chau understood the meaning and value of will and honest labor from a young age. “The more you work, the faster you can save,” the saying she always kept in mind and encouraged her family during difficult times, helped her husband and her husband to have the determination to escape poverty, gradually take control of their lives and become more prosperous and well-off.

Recalling the early 90s, thanks to the Party and State's policies on promoting economic restructuring, along with policies to support hunger eradication and poverty reduction, Ms. Chau discussed with her husband to boldly borrow some capital from the bank to open a grocery store.

The demand for buying and selling in the area is increasing, from the initial small retail business, her family gradually expanded the store, increased both the quantity and variety of goods, becoming a distributor for retail stores in the inner hamlets and villages. Not wasting any free time, the couple took advantage of every free moment to make more wine, increase the vegetable garden, raise more pigs and chickens, and when sold, they sold to neighbors and neighboring areas.

Gradually, thanks to their "good hands" in taking care of the pigs, the family's herd of pigs grew in number, from a few pigs at first to a dozen, then a few dozen, bringing in a relatively stable source of income, but the couple was not satisfied and struggled day and night to find a new direction for further development.

In 2014, during a trip to visit pig farming models, seeing that many places had been smart and invested heavily in building industrial-style livestock farms, Ms. Chau was even more determined to change the small-scale farming method at that time. While she was still nurturing this idea, not long after, the Commune People's Committee had a policy to plan a concentrated livestock and poultry farming area, far from residential areas.

Thinking that this was a favorable condition to build a farm, seizing the opportunity, Chau and her husband discussed continuing to borrow money from the bank, buying more land and investing in a systematic barn system, selecting 300 good quality pigs for "piloting". She said, thanks to God's grace, the first batch sold for a high profit, had money to pay off part of the debt, and the rest they bought more pigs to expand the scale.

In early 2016, when the farm was operating stably and the output was guaranteed thanks to the quality assurance, it was time for the couple to expand the model, opening a second farm, increasing the total pig herd to more than 1,000 pigs. For sustainable and long-term livestock farming, the farm focused on investing in a biogas tank to treat waste without affecting the environment.

Continuing to diversify business to prevent risks and market fluctuations, they "put their eggs in many baskets", opened more agents supplying animal and poultry feed and a gas station near the grocery store, meeting the fuel needs of the increasing number of vehicles in the area.

All the businesses are doing well, with reputation as the top priority, so customers trust them and come in droves. Ms. Chau hires more workers to help with the work, thereby creating jobs for 15-20 seasonal workers and 5 regular workers with a salary of 4-5 million VND/person/month.

Despite being busy, Ms. Chau and her family are very enthusiastic and active in collective activities and local campaigns, not hesitating to share experiences and help poor households learn how to do business to escape poverty.

Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Nghia Phu Commune, Ho Thanh Trong, commented on her: "The way Chau's family does business is a typical model for people in and outside the region to learn from. What is valuable is that she does not "hide her profession", she is willing to guide everyone on barn standards, livestock farming techniques, food sources, etc. Her family is also always at the forefront of activities launched by Farmers' Associations at all levels, especially recently she was awarded a Certificate of Merit by the commune for her significant material and spiritual contributions, joining hands to soon make Nghia Phu a commune that meets new rural standards."

Ms. Nguyen Thi Chau shared: “To have a total income from production and business after deducting expenses of more than 1 billion VND/year as today, my family has gone through many years of hardship, rising from failure. Therefore, for those who want to learn from our experience, my husband and I are always willing to help, without hiding anything, we must strive together to improve ourselves, our families and contribute to beautifying our homeland.”

The property that Ms. Chau's family has today is the dream of many people. With a good production and business model, exemplary leadership in community activities, and contributions to the general development of the residential area, Ms. Nguyen Thi Chau was selected by the Farmers' Association of Nghia Dan district to become one of the 7 typical representatives of the district to attend the 10th Conference of good farmers and businessmen of Nghe An province, period 2012 - 2016, scheduled to take place next March. For her, it will be an opportunity to share and exchange with other typical examples, and who knows, it will be the source of more daring production and business ideas in the near future.
