(Baonghean) - Being a locality with abundant land resources, Thanh Chuong district currently has thousands of farms and ranches that bring in large revenues. Among them, the combined farm of Mr. and Mrs. Tran Cong Son - Hoang Thi Nhung in Hamlet 13, Thanh My Commune earns billions of dong each year on a total land area of 2.5 hectares.

Many years ago, Ms. Hoang Thi Nhung - Head of the Farmers' Association of Village 13, Thanh My Commune (Thanh Chuong District) was famous for being a good businesswoman. Her husband was in the army and her children were still young, but she invested in a farm to grow fruit trees, sell seedlings, and raise fish, earning over 100 million VND per year.

Since Mr. Tran Cong Son - Mrs. Nhung's husband retired, the family's economic development has been more favorable. They decided to invest in planting only two main fruit trees, persimmon and grapefruit, and use the remaining land to build chicken coops and raise other animals.

To successfully raise chickens, Mr. and Mrs. Son - Nhung chose native rooster breeds such as ri, coc..., designed a system for raising egg-laying chickens, built an incubator, hired a veterinarian to strictly follow the chicken brooding process. After the brooding process and vaccination steps, when the chickens are resistant enough, they are released into the garden, fed with self-mixed feed and agricultural by-products.

Earning high profits from raising chickens and selling breeding chickens, Mr. Son and his wife rented an additional 1.5 hectares of land about 500m from their house to open another farm. This farm is located in the middle of a large field, with a strong net, the chickens are allowed to roam freely in the corn and sesame garden, both to eradicate insects and eat all the grass, and to produce delicious meat. Mr. Son also dug a pond and raised about 3,000 wild ducks imported from the Cuc Phuong Forest Breeding Center - Ninh Binh. "People say that raising chickens is difficult to sell. Those are chickens raised in an industrial manner. But free-range chickens still have... a lot of output, and are very profitable," Mr. Son shared.

Along with chickens, other livestock such as wild boars, mallard ducks, soft-shell turtles, and fish are also very developed. In recent years, each year, Mr. Son's farm supplies about 8 tons of chicken meat, 100,000 chickens, 4,000 mallard ducks, 150 wild boars, 600 kg of wild boar meat, and 500 kg of soft-shell turtles; each year, the total revenue is over 1 billion VND.

Another advantage of Mr. Son and his wife is that at the time he successfully raised chickens, Thanh Chuong district had built the Science and Technology Project "Building, managing and developing the collective brand of Thanh Chuong chickens" and the project "Developing some livestock associated with building brands and consuming products in the period of 2016 - 2020". In which, the models that have been raised very successfully such as the farm of Mr. Son and Mrs. Nhung are vivid practical bases, an important initial source of breeds. Mr. Son said: Most of the chicken farms in the area, especially the chicken raising model of Intimex Cassava Starch Factory, buy breeds from his farm. This is a feasible project if reputable chicken breeding farms are built, with enough capacity to provide breeds for local chicken farmers".

At the newly held congress to establish the "Thanh Chuong District Chicken Breeders Association", Mr. Tran Cong Son was elected to the Executive Committee in charge of technical matters, but he modestly said: "Everyone who raises chickens has the technique, the most important thing is to organize exchanges of experiences between farming households. That is the closest and fastest way to approach science and technology". He and his wife hope to join hands, contribute their voices and ways of doing things to bring "Thanh Chuong chicken" to consumers in a wider range, with higher value.
