Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development inspects agricultural production in Nghe An
(Baonghean.vn) - Deputy Minister Le Quoc Doanh requested Nghe An to continue to closely monitor the fields, make timely forecasts, and early containment to prevent the spread of diseases and pests, and to protect the area, productivity, and output of spring rice.
On the morning of April 17, the working delegation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development led by Deputy Minister Le Quoc Doanh inspected the situation of pests in winter-spring rice in Nghe An province. Accompanying and working with the delegation, on the side of Nghe An province, was comrade Hoang Nghia Hieu - Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; representatives of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.

The delegation inspected some key rice growing districts of the province such as Quynh Luu, Yen Thanh and Dien Chau, and evaluated the success of the national rice product project being implemented in Khanh Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district. Up to now, Yen Thanh has 11,000/12,500 hectares of spring rice in bloom, Quynh Luu 4,650/7,500 hectares and Dien Chau 2,500/9,200 hectares.
In the fields, harmful pests such as leaf blast, brown spot, bacterial leaf blight have appeared, however, after being prevented and controlled, the area currently affected by pests and diseases is insignificant. At the same time, thanks to proactively allocating the budget to support rat extermination right from the beginning of the season, the occurrence of rats causing serious damage has been limited.

Working with the delegation, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Hoang Nghia Hieu informed: In the 2020 spring crop, Nghe An planted 92,017 hectares of rice, (reaching 102.2%). To date, the total rice area has blossomed over 40,000 hectares. The whole province has over 2,000 hectares infected with leaf blast disease, over 50 hectares infected with neck blast disease. In addition, brown spot, grain sterility, leaf blight, bacterial stripe spot, leaf roller and various types of planthoppers have also arisen, causing damage to many areas. Over 3,000 hectares have been damaged by rats, of which 290 hectares are severely damaged and nearly 20 hectares are at risk of over 70% damage.

In that situation, Nghe An has been focusing on directing the implementation of good investigation, detection, prediction and advice on preventing and controlling plant pests, especially paying attention to rice blast, grain rot, late-season planthoppers, etc. Forecasting the rice blooming situation to monitor and investigate, predict and propose prevention measures. Accordingly, in addition to the 40,000 hectares that have bloomed, from now until April 20, there will be an additional 15,000 hectares of blooming rice, from April 21 to 25, it will be 27,000 hectares and the blooming area after April 25 will be 10,000 hectares.
"During the current epidemic, ensuring food security is extremely important, so Nghe An needs to continue to closely monitor the fields, make timely forecasts, and localize early to prevent diseases from spreading, and protect the area, productivity and output of spring rice," the Deputy Minister requested.
