Deputy Minister of Health: People need to voluntarily get vaccinated against Covid-19
(Baonghean.vn) - At the rally to respond to the International Day for Epidemic Prevention 2021, Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Truong Son called on all people to voluntarily get vaccinated. It is not only the responsibility and right of individuals but also for the health of the community.
On the morning of December 27, the Ministry of Health coordinated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to solemnly organize a rally in response to the International Day for Epidemic Prevention with the theme “Sharing vaccines, saving lives, restoring the economy”. The ceremony was held online, with the participation of 63 provincial and municipal bridges across the country.
Attending the Central bridge were representatives of the World Health Organization in Vietnam and organizations under the United Nations. The Nghe An bridge had the participation of leaders of the Department of Health, the Provincial Police, the Provincial Military Command, the Provincial Border Guard Command, the Southeast Economic Zone Management Board, and related departments and branches.

On December 7, the United Nations General Assembly adopted Resolution A/RES/75/27, designating December 27 as the International Day for Epidemic Preparedness and Response. This is the first resolution of the United Nations General Assembly in this field, and also the first resolution that Vietnam chaired to propose, negotiate and successfully promote at the United Nations General Assembly.
The resolution calls on all United Nations Member States, organizations of the United Nations system, other international and regional organizations, the private sector, non-governmental organizations, research institutions, individuals and other relevant stakeholders to observe the International Day of Epidemic Preparedness each year.
December 27 was chosen as World Epidemic Prevention Day because it is the birthday of Louis Pasteur, one of the first people to lay the foundations of preventive medicine. His work on the causes of epidemics and the development of vaccines has and continues to save lives around the world.
The rally in response to the International Epidemic Prevention Day 2021 is one of the activities organized to disseminate and raise awareness about disease prevention, especially vaccination, thereby creating better preparation and coordination on this issue at all levels, sectors and all people.

According to Deputy Minister Nguyen Truong Son: At this point, Vietnam has administered 145,595,435 doses of vaccine.Covid-19, of which the first injection was 77,074,627 doses, the second injection was 65,951,068 doses, the third injection (supplemental/booster injection and the third injection of Abdala vaccine) was 2,569,740 doses. The coverage rate of at least 01 dose of Covid-19 vaccine was 98.6% and the rate of full vaccination with 02 doses was 87.3% of the population aged 18 and over.
The Covid-19 vaccination coverage rate for children aged 12-17 with at least 1 dose of vaccine is 80.2% and the coverage rate with 2 doses is 41.0%... Vietnam is determined that by the end of 2021, 100% of people over 18 years old will be fully vaccinated with 2 doses of Covid-19 vaccine.
At the ceremony, delegates listened to a speech by United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. The UN Secretary-General emphasized that Covid-19 will not be the last pandemic that humanity has to face. Infectious diseases remain a clear and present danger to all countries; and called for ensuring equitable access to life-saving interventions such as vaccines for everyone; and at the same time implementing universal health coverage./.
