In British Prime Minister David Cameron's final summit with European leaders last night, June 28, before leaving office, Mr. Cameron affirmed that the British people chose "Brexit" because they believe the country does not have the right to control its borders.

Prime Minister Cameron said the basis for a future deal between Britain and the EU was a review of the bloc's open border policy, so that London could maintain access to the single market.

If the condition is passed, Britain could maintain access to the single market without having to accept the unrestricted immigration rules imposed by the EU.

Speaking to EU leaders, including German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Francois Hollande, Cameron stressed that the British people were not “keen” on the EU, partly because they felt their concerns about immigration were not being taken into account. Therefore, the British leader suggested that the EU should adjust its regulations on freedom of movement.

Mr Cameron also warned that if the rules on freedom of movement within the bloc are not reviewed, the risk of many other European countries holding referendums on "severing" from the EU is inevitable.

Outgoing Prime Minister Cameron's remarks come amid a debate within European politics over whether to continue economic ties with the UK despite the referendum result.

According to British Government sources, Prime Minister Cameron's main purpose in setting conditions with the EU is ultimately to create a constructive spirit for upcoming discussions about Britain's future in the EU, thereby somewhat reducing the burden on his successor next September./.
