Mr Cameron condemned the threats against immigrants over the weekend. His comments came after London Mayor Sadiq Khan spoke of the rise in racism following the referendum.
The Polish Embassy in the UK said it was shocked by the acts of discrimination and prejudice against Polish nationals living in the UK. The community has received a large number of hate mail and xenophobic messages. The embassy is working with local police to find the perpetrators.
One person has been charged with public order offences and racial discrimination after protesting outside a mosque in Birmingham over the weekend. Another person has also been arrested for threatening behaviour and obstructing an officer.
Sadiq Khan said the police force was on high alert in response to the incidents. He also called on Londoners to come together to protect the city. The police force also promised to investigate all reports of incidents that were received.
Khan asked people to respect those who voted “Leave”. Instead of accusing them of xenophobia and racism, the Mayor of London hoped everyone would work together to find the best solution for the city.
Secretary General of the Islamic Council Shuja Shafi has called on politicians to work together to resolve the current political crisis. The council has also demanded enhanced security measures.
Boris Johnson, the leader of the “Leave” camp and likely to replace Mr Cameron, reassured European residents currently living in the UK, affirming that the government would protect their rights and ensure a fair and humane social system.
