On the night of May 22, the Manchester Arena covered stadium witnessed the incident.terrorismA sudden and bloody attack left 22 people dead and at least 59 others injured. Some of the injured are in critical condition.

“There is a terrorist cell behind it”

The British Prime Minister has revealed that a larger group may have been responsible for the Manchester bombing, which happened shortly after an Ariana Grande concert.

British military personnel could be deployed to support armed police forces, Theresa May said.

British police identified Salman Abedi (22 years old, British of Libyan origin) as the suspect who detonated homemade explosives at the Manchester Arena.

The suspect was first identified by US security agencies and his identity was confirmed by Greater Manchester Police Chief Constable Ian Hopkins.

Britain has braced itself for further terrorist attacks following the Manchester massacre.

Among the dead was an 8-year-old girl.

Speaking at 10 Downing Street, Prime Minister Theresa May said: “The spirit of Manchester and the spirit of Britain are much stronger than the sick plots of depraved terrorists... That is why terrorists will never win and we will prevail.”

Theresa May continued: “In my previous statement, I said that the police and security agencies needed to investigate whether Abedi acted alone. Investigations are continuing. The investigation has revealed a possibility that we cannot ignore that there is a wider group of individuals who are linked to this attack.”

Theresa continued: “I have announced that the Joint Intelligence Analysis Center – the independent organization responsible for determining the threat level based on available intelligence – is regularly monitoring the threat level. This organization has now concluded that the current alert level should be raised from severe to critical.”

The assessment means not only is the risk of attack high, but another attack is likely imminent, Theresa May said.

Mobilizing the army to prevent terrorism

According to the British Prime Minister, this change in threat level means more resources and support for the police in their mission of ensuring security for the UK.

“As a result of a decision from the Joint Intelligence Analysis Center, the police have requested the Minister of Defense to direct the deployment of a number of military personnel to support the armed police force.”

“This proposal is part of a long-standing and carefully planned operation, called Operation Temperer, in which both the military and police forces involved are well trained and well prepared for operations in the current security environment,” Prime Minister Theresa May said.

“The UK Defence Secretary has approved this request and Operation Temperer is now in effect,” Theresa May added.

This means that military personnel will replace armed police guards at key facilities so that police can increase patrols at key locations.

“You may see military personnel deployed at certain events such as concerts or sports competitions to assist police in maintaining public order and safety.”

Notably, in all situations, “the military personnel deployed in this operation will be placed under the command of the police.”

How military and police forces are deployed is an operational-level decision made by police commanders.

According to Theresa, British police will cooperate with event organizers and hosts to agree on how to organize the event so that attendees are safe.

British Prime Minister Theresa May called on "all citizens to be vigilant and cooperate with the police, supporting the police when they carry out their duties"./.
