Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau begins official visit to Vietnam

On November 8, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau arrived in Hanoi, beginning an official visit to Vietnam from November 8-9, 2017, at the invitation of Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

The delegation includes: Prime Minister Justin Trudeau; Canadian Ambassador to Hanoi Ping Kitnikone; Principal Assistant to the Prime Minister Gerald Butts; Defense and Foreign Policy Advisor John Hannaford; Director of Canadian Protocol Roy Norton; Director of Policy of the Prime Minister's Office Michael McNair; Deputy Director of Information of the Prime Minister's Office Andrée-Lyne Hallé; Policy Advisor of the Prime Minister's Office Julie Savard-Shaw.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was born on December 25, 1971 in Ottawa, Canada. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree from McGill University (1994); Bachelor of Education from the University of British Columbia (1998). He studied Engineering at the University of Montreal (2002 - 2004); and a Master's degree in Environmental Geography at McGill University (2005 - 2006).

He is the eldest son of former Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau. His wife is Sophie Gregoire. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has two sons and a daughter.

During his working period, from 2000 to 2006, Mr. Justin Trudeau participated in activities to build the image of the Liberal Party among Canadian youth. In 2007, he ran for the House of Commons as a Member of Parliament representing the local Papineau. In 2008, he was elected Member of Parliament representing Papineau. In 2009, he was co-chair of the Liberal Party National Convention.

From 2009 to 2010, he represented the Liberal Party in Parliament on issues of youth rights, immigration, citizenship and multiculturalism. In 2011, Justin Trudeau was re-elected Member of Parliament for the riding of Papineau. In 2013, he won the Liberal Party leadership election and became leader of the Liberal Party.

In 2015, Mr. Justin Trudeau and the Liberal Party won a big victory in the federal election (winning more than 150 seats in the House of Commons compared to the 2011 election) and for the first time in 10 years regained the majority in Parliament.

On November 4, 2015, Mr. Trudeau officially took office as Prime Minister of Canada at the age of 45. He is the second youngest Prime Minister in Canadian history (after Prime Minister Joe Clark, who took office in 1979 at the age of 43).
