Prime Minister directs to speed up implementation of Long Thanh airport project

The Prime Minister has just directed the implementation status and a number of measures to speed up the progress of the Long Thanh International Airport Project.

Accordingly, the Prime Minister allows the People's Committee of Dong Nai province to organize the planning of resettlement areas and establish an investment project to build resettlement areas at the same time as the process of preparing the Feasibility Study Report (F/S) of the Long Thanh International Airport Project of Vietnam Airports Corporation. The investment sub-project to build resettlement areas is approved after the approval of F/S.

On that basis, the People's Committee of Dong Nai province is responsible for directing the selection of contractors to implement the resettlement sub-project in accordance with the provisions of law; at the same time, work directly with the Ministries of Planning and Investment, Finance, and Transport to study and arrange the advance payment to implement the project in accordance with regulations, and report to the Prime Minister on issues beyond its authority.

The Prime Minister also assigned the Ministry of Transport to direct and guide the Vietnam Airports Corporation to promptly organize the preparation of the Feasibility Study Report for Phase 1 of the Long Thanh International Airport Project according to the direction of the Prime Minister in Official Dispatch No. 1509/TTg-KTN dated August 26, 2015; to be responsible for urging relevant agencies and units to implement the project to ensure the overall quality and effectiveness of the project.

The Long Thanh International Airport project will be implemented in Long Thanh district, Dong Nai province with the goal of building an airport that meets level 4F according to the classification of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), an important international airport of the country, aiming to become one of the international aviation transit centers of the region.

The expected capacity is 100 million passengers/year and 5 million tons of cargo/year, divided into 3 phases. In which, phase 1 must complete and put into operation by 2025 at the latest, 1 runway and 1 passenger terminal along with synchronous auxiliary items with a capacity of 25 million passengers/year and 1.2 million tons of cargo/year…/.
