Prime Minister directs review and support for fishermen affected by mass fish deaths

(Baonghean.vn) - Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc assigned the People's Committees of the provinces to review and count the households that have suffered losses in aquaculture and seafood exploitation, and propose measures to support fishermen to stabilize their lives.

Deputy Head of the Government Office Nguyen Cao Luc has just issued an official dispatch conveying the direction of Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on the phenomenon of unusual deaths of seafood in four coastal provinces from Ha Tinh to Thua Thien - Hue recently.

After listening to Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung's report on the field inspection in Ha Tinh, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc assigned the People's Committees of Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, and Thua Thien - Hue provinces to review and compile statistics on aquaculture and seafood exploitation households that suffered damage, ensuring completeness and accuracy; propose support measures for fishermen, especially policy households, poor and disadvantaged households, and cases of major and severe damage, to help people stabilize their lives soon.

The Prime Minister emphasized that people must not go hungry due to the suspension of fishing. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is responsible for coordinating with relevant agencies to review and synthesize the report for the Prime Minister to consider and decide as soon as possible.

The Prime Minister also assigned the Ministries of Science and Technology, Public Security, National Defense, Industry and Trade, Health, and the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology to proactively coordinate and support the Ministries of Natural Resources and Environment and Agriculture and Rural Development to urgently clarify the cause of the unusual death of seafood in these localities. On that basis, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment agreed with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to urgently report to the Prime Minister.

The Ministries of Planning and Investment, Industry and Trade, Natural Resources and Environment and the People's Committees of the provinces of Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien-Hue and localities nationwide proactively review investment projects in various fields, especially heavy industry, regarding environmental protection, especially the marine environment.

In recent days, public opinion across the country has been heated up by the mass fish deaths along the coast from Vung Ang (Ha Tinh) to Thua Thien Hue. Authorities are investigating the cause of the mass fish deaths.
