Prime Minister directs on Uber taxi service operations
The Ministry of Transport requires Uber to only sign contracts with transport businesses that meet the conditions prescribed by law.
The Prime Minister agreed with the report of the Ministry of Transport on the business activities of passenger transport services applying network technology to operate (Uber) in Vietnam.
According to the Ministry of Transport's report, Uber operates in Vietnam under an investment certificate issued by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee on August 30, 2014. The Ministry of Transport requires Uber to only sign contracts with transport businesses that meet the conditions prescribed by law. The Ministry will direct the Ministry's Inspectorate to conduct regular and surprise inspections of Uber's operations; any violations found will be strictly handled according to the law.
The Ministry of Transport also requested the Ministries and agencies: Finance (management of tax and financial obligations), Industry and Trade (management of e-commerce), State Bank of Vietnam (management of international payments) and Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee (management of investment certificates) to create conditions for Uber to operate in accordance with the law and compete fairly...
The Prime Minister agrees with the above report of the Ministry of Transport; at the same time, requests the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City and relevant agencies to consider and handle according to their authority the issues under their management. Regarding the proposal of the Ho Chi Minh City Taxi Association, the Prime Minister assigned the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City to consider and handle according to their authority and respond to the Ho Chi Minh City Taxi Association.
