The Prime Minister issues directives regarding Uber taxi services.
The Ministry of Transport requires Uber to only sign contracts with transportation businesses that meet the legal requirements.
The Prime Minister agrees with the report of the Ministry of Transport on the business operations of ride-hailing services using network technology (Uber) in Vietnam.
According to a report from the Ministry of Transport, Uber operates in Vietnam under an Investment Certificate issued by the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City on August 30, 2014. The Ministry of Transport requires Uber to only sign contracts with transport businesses that meet the legal requirements. The Ministry will direct its Inspectorate to conduct regular and unscheduled inspections of Uber's operations; any violations found will be strictly dealt with according to the law.
The Ministry of Transport also requested that the Ministries and agencies: Finance (responsible for tax and financial obligations), Industry and Trade (responsible for e-commerce), the State Bank of Vietnam (responsible for international payments), and the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City (responsible for issuing investment certificates) create favorable conditions for Uber to operate in accordance with the law and engage in fair competition...
The Prime Minister agrees with the report of the Ministry of Transport mentioned above; at the same time, he requests the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City and relevant agencies to consider and handle, within their authority, the issues falling under their management. Regarding the proposal of the Ho Chi Minh City Taxi Association, the Prime Minister assigns the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City to consider and resolve it within its authority and provide a response to the Ho Chi Minh City Taxi Association.
Previously, the Prime Minister had assigned the Ministry of Transport to take the lead and coordinate with the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City to consider and resolve the request of the Ho Chi Minh City Taxi Association regarding the timing of allowing Uber to operate in Vietnam.
