Prime Minister wishes Vietnam team to play strongly against Japan

The government leader said the team's position as one of the continent's eight strongest teams was "very encouraging".

On the evening of January 22, before leaving for the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc called coach Park Hang-seo and the Vietnamese team to encourage the players to confidently compete in the upcoming quarter-final match at the 2019 Asian Cup.

The Prime Minister said that the team's entry into the quarter-finals of the tournament, becoming one of the eight strongest teams on the continent, "is very encouraging, winning the love of fans, and is considered to have achieved the set goal."

He wished the players to enter the quarter-final match with a relaxed, united and strong mentality on their feet, play to the best of their abilities, continue to demonstrate and spread the Vietnamese spirit like in the past matches. The home fans always stand by and support the team.

Previously, right after the Vietnamese football team's penalty shootout victory over Jordan on the evening of January 20, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc sent his compliments and congratulations to the players and coaching staff.

He emphasized that the players played with confidence, courage and dedication for the country, giving fans an impressive match, bringing the Vietnamese team to the quarter-finals.

The match between Vietnam and Japan takes place at 8:00 p.m. on January 24.

Recently, the Prime Minister has sent many letters to visit and encourage the national football team and the Vietnam U23 team. He sent two letters and once called directly to praise and encourage the U23 team when they competed in Changzhou (China); sent congratulations to the Vietnam Olympic team for entering the semi-finals of the Asian Games for the first time and encouraged the players before the AFF Cup 2018 final to "stay calm, be confident, and play your best for the country's flag".

On the afternoon of December 21, 2018, at the Government headquarters, the Prime Minister met and commended the Vietnamese team after the team won the AFF Cup 2018 championship.

Regarding the journey of the Vietnamese team at the 2019 Asian Cup, on the afternoon of January 15, the Prime Minister also praised all the staff, coaches and players for their great efforts and determination in the two matches in the group stage.
