German Chancellor Angela Merkel will not attend the Davos Forum.

According to Reuters, German Chancellor Angela Merkel will not attend the upcoming World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, an event expected to focus on the issue of US President Donald Trump's term as well as the growing wave of public opposition to political elites and globalization.

Ms Merkel has attended the annual gathering of political leaders, CEOs and celebrities in Switzerland seven times since becoming German chancellor in 2015.

However, Chancellor Merkel's spokesman said she would not attend this year's forum, which runs from January 17-20 under the theme "Listening and Responsible Leadership." Mr. Trump will be inaugurated as US President on January 20.

This is the first time Mrs. Merkel has missed the Davos forum for two consecutive years. The German Chancellor's absence will be a big disappointment to the organizers because her image as a steadfast, principled leader is very suitable for the theme of this year's WEF./.
