Returning to the first place he set foot in Vietnam 40 years ago, the Cambodian Prime Minister recalled where weapons were buried and local dishes.

On the morning of June 21, Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen visited Loc Ninh district (Binh Phuoc), the first place he set foot in Vietnam to find a way to save the country from the genocidal Pol Pot group 40 years ago.

Welcoming the Cambodian Prime Minister, the Vietnamese delegation included Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh and Senior Lieutenant General Tran Don (Deputy Minister of National Defense), Senior Lieutenant General Bui Van Nam (Deputy Minister of Public Security), along with leaders of the Provincial Party Committee, People's Committee of Binh Phuoc province and local people.

Prime Minister Hun Sen attended and cut the ribbon to inaugurate the Loc Thanh commune cultural house and planted the "Vietnam - Cambodia solidarity tree".

When arriving at Hoa Lu hamlet, Loc Tan commune, Mr. Hun Sen walked on the old trail where he (at that time he was 25 years old) and 4 comrades crossed the forest to go to Vietnam to build a revolution, which is now a vast rubber forest.

Talking to the people of Loc Ninh, he recounted many unforgettable memories of difficult times, moments of burying weapons, meeting people and eating Vietnamese dishes.

During the conversation, he repeatedly expressed his sincere thanks to the Vietnamese people for what Vietnam had given him and the Cambodian people. From those premises, he was able to return to his country, lead the Cambodian people to destroy the Pol Pot genocidal group, and liberate the country.

Before visiting Vietnam, early in the morning of the same day, Mr. Hun Sen attended the 40th anniversary of the journey to overthrow the Pol Pot genocidal regime (June 20, 1977 - June 20, 2017), held at Koh Thmor village, Memot district, Tbong Khmum province, Cambodia.
