Speaking before 690 delegates representing more than 2.4 million Vietnamese students at home and abroad, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc stated that it is necessary to pay attention to training political qualities, not allowing students to lose their revolutionary ideals, live pragmatically, and stray from the fine cultural traditions of our nation.

This morning, December 10, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc attended the solemn session of the 10th National Congress of the Vietnam Students' Association (VSA), an organization with nearly 1.4 million members.

Promoting the creative role of students

In front of nearly 700 delegates present at the Vietnam-Soviet Friendship Cultural Palace, the Prime Minister said that this is the Congress of the young generation of Vietnam, full of vitality, determination, ambition, with the spirit of "courage, learning, creativity, volunteering, integration".

Affirming that the Party and State always pay attention to caring for and nurturing generations of young people and students to become future masters of the country, with the mission of affirming the intelligence and stature of Vietnam, the Prime Minister said that over the years, the Vietnamese student force has constantly strived and achieved achievements in studying, scientific research, and cultivating revolutionary ethics. The Vietnam Student Association has many innovations in organizing activities, meeting the needs and legitimate interests of 2.4 million students nationwide.

Many good models, creative approaches, and diverse activities are bringing about practical results. Students are increasingly selective in absorbing information, ready to fight against false, provocative information that goes against the Party's policies and guidelines and the State's laws. The "5 Good" Student Movement has created a favorable environment for students to practice and strive to improve themselves.

With the achieved results, the Vietnam Student Association increasingly affirms its role as a representative voice, reflecting the needs and aspirations of students.

However, in addition to the achieved results, according to the Prime Minister, the work of the Association and the student movement also has limitations. First of all, the work of propagating, disseminating the law, grasping and orienting public opinion among students sometimes and in some places has not met the requirements. There is still a group of students who lack motivation to study, lack the will to improve, have deviant lifestyles, even have social evils, are easily provoked, enticed, and participate in illegal activities, and are not well prepared for integration, starting a business, and establishing a career.

Recalling Uncle Ho's advice to students at the 2nd Vietnam Student Congress in 1958: "For young intellectuals like you here, we need to ask two questions: Study for what? Study to serve whom? These are two questions that need to be answered decisively in order to have a direction", the Prime Minister emphasized some more contents for the Congress to discuss. First of all, it is necessary to strengthen the education of revolutionary ideals, ethics, lifestyle, and culture for students. Forming a new generation of young people with good qualities, with courage and determination to act, with responsibility to the Fatherland, to the people, and to the Socialist regime.

Strengthen education on the cultural traditions and history of the Party and the nation, revolutionary ideals, compassion, honesty and responsibility, the spirit of studiousness, labor and awareness of law compliance, and environmental protection. Proactively grasp and forecast the ideological situation of students, promptly fight and propagate to clarify false arguments, help students understand and actively participate in the fight against the peaceful evolution plot of hostile forces. Strengthen the fight to protect the Party and the regime, focusing on fighting in cyberspace.

The Prime Minister noted that students are often the target of hostile and reactionary forces seeking to lure and entice them. In reality, there have been students who have been incited by bad forces to commit illegal acts, going against the revolutionary goals and ideals of the Party and the nation. Therefore, it is necessary to pay attention to training political qualities, not allowing students to lose their revolutionary ideals, live pragmatically, and stray from the fine cultural traditions of our nation.

It is necessary to promote the organization of emulation movement activities. Promote the creative pioneering role of students. Take care and support students to develop comprehensively.

The Prime Minister highly approved the continued and widespread implementation of the "5 Good Students" movement to contribute to building a comprehensive class of students who are both good and specialized.

The Association must be ready to listen, support, and assist students as well as protect their legitimate rights, making students trust, seek out, and consider the Association as the common home of Vietnamese students.

Encourage and motivate students to participate in research and innovation in the fields of science and technology, promote startups. Students must be a force strongly committed to the current creative startup field of the country. They must dare to think, dare to do, not be afraid of difficulties and hardships, know how to accept failure to achieve success, always have a strong will and spirit to rise up in life.

The Prime Minister said that in the coming time, the Government will continue to pay attention and create a more favorable environment to support students in forming and realizing ideas, initiatives and start-up projects, contributing to creating jobs for students after graduation.

Students must uphold national spirit.

Citing the Proclamation of Victory, the Prime Minister stated that our national consciousness was formed before that. “History has raised national consciousness and national aspirations, and today in our hearts, especially the young generation of students, we must raise national spirit and national consciousness even higher to lead our nation forward in the new era.”

In the context of globalization and Vietnam's increasingly deep international integration, the Prime Minister advised that Vietnamese students are global citizens with Vietnamese cultural identity, including physical training. "We see that in the past, when playing football in the second half, our limbs were exhausted, but now the second half is normal," said the Prime Minister. And this integration requires not only culture and spirit but also deep international understanding.so as not to fall behind the times. It is also important to innovate in the digital age.

“One person taking care of things is worth a whole warehouse of workers”, quoting his father, the Prime Minister asked students to not only find a job after graduation but also think about starting a business. In particular, to integrate well in the technology era, it is necessary to pay attention to foreign languages such as English and information technology.

The Prime Minister also noted that the Association's work must pay attention to gathering students in the new context, the context of the 4.0 industrial revolution, applying strong technology in gathering global youth, especially Vietnamese students in other countries. The Prime Minister also asked schools to pay practical attention to student work, both materially and spiritually, "so that Vietnamese students do not race, do not get addicted to drugs, so that Vietnamese students have good physical health, and are good at studying".

“The Party and the State always put their trust in the student force and the Vietnam Student Association. At the same time, we also expect the Vietnam Student Association to perform its functions and tasks better, contributing to nurturing Vietnamese students to become good citizens and high-quality human resources to serve the cause of building and defending the Fatherland,” the Prime Minister stated.
