On the afternoon of July 23, at the Government Headquarters, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and leaders of several ministries and functional agencies held a working session with the leaders of the Vietnam Journalists Association.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung highly appreciated the activities of the Vietnam Journalists Association in recent years, noting its positive contributions to the socio-economic development of the country. He also expressed his hope that the Vietnam Journalists Association would continue to uphold its 63-year tradition of development and growth; overcome limitations and weaknesses; better fulfill its assigned roles and tasks; coordinate with relevant agencies in managing and directing the press, guiding public opinion, creating social consensus, and contributing to the successful implementation of socio-economic development goals. According to the Prime Minister, the Vietnam Journalists Association needs to strengthen its guidance, monitoring, inspection, and supervision of the activities of its branches at all levels, fostering cohesion and improving the quality of its operations. He also emphasized the need for effective implementation of financial support for all branches to enhance the quality of journalism in general and the National Journalism Awards in particular.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung also noted that the Vietnam Journalists Association needs to pay special attention to increasing the number and quality of political and professional training courses, focusing on educating its officials and members on professional ethics. At the same time, the Central Association needs to further strengthen coordination with local associations to organize training courses and specialized seminars to help members improve their professional skills and expertise.

To date, the country has over 19,000 journalists affiliated with 291 grassroots organizations of the Journalists' Association, including 63 provincial and city Journalists' Associations, 18 federated branches, and 210 directly affiliated chapters.

Furthermore, the Vietnam Journalists Association needs to continue to strengthen and expand its external relations activities to enhance professional exchanges and promote friendship and cooperation with international media. At the meeting, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and leaders of relevant ministries and agencies reviewed and provided specific feedback on the proposals and recommendations of the Vietnam Journalists Association on several issues, including: the Association's charter; staffing, funding, and operating conditions for all levels of the association; age and benefits for association staff; the "Continuing to support the creation of high-quality journalistic works at the central and local levels, 2016-2020" project; the "Training and professional development in politics, skills, and association work for officials and members of the Vietnam Journalists Association, 2013-2018" project; the "Vietnam Journalism Museum" project; and external relations in journalism...

Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists Association and Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, Thuan Huu, stated that the Association is determined to continue enhancing its role in managing and directing the press and building a clean and strong organization; promoting political and ideological education; comprehensively implementing all aspects of work, ensuring that members—journalists—successfully fulfill their assigned political tasks, perform well in press information work, and strictly adhere to the Regulations on Professional Ethics for Journalists; and effectively carry out regular activities related to organizational development, professional work, inspection work, and social activities.
