Prime Minister leaves for Mekong River Commission Summit

At the invitation of Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen, on April 4, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and the Vietnamese delegation left Hanoi for Siem Reap, Cambodia to attend the 3rd Mekong River Commission Summit from April 4-5.
Accompanying the Prime Minister were Minister, Chairman of the Government Office Mai Tien Dung; Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, Chairman of the Vietnam Mekong River Commission Tran Hong Ha; Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia Vu Quang Minh; Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ha Kim Ngoc; Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Pham Cong Tac; Deputy Minister of Transport Nguyen Nhat; Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Quoc Khanh; Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Hoang Van Thang; Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen The Phuong; Assistant to the Prime Minister Bui Huy Hung.
The Mekong River Commission was established in 1956 under the auspices of the United Nations to coordinate funding and resource management in the basin.
By 1995, the four countries of Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam signed the 1995 Mekong Cooperation Agreement and established the Mekong River Commission (replacing the Mekong River Commission).
The Mekong River Commission (MRC) is currently implementing its five-year Strategic Plan (2016-2020) which includes seven key outcomes and more than 190 activities with an estimated total budget of approximately US$60 million. The objective of the Plan is to implement the priorities of the Basin Development Strategy based on integrated water resources management, continue to transfer key functions of river basin management to the country and reform the MRC Secretariat./.
