The Prime Minister has officially requested the Minister of Education and Training and Chairman of the State Council for Professor Titles to seriously consider and thoroughly review to ensure the quality of candidates meeting the standards for the titles of professor and associate professor in 2017.

This directive of the Prime Minister was issued at a time when doubts surrounding the consideration of the titles of professor and associate professor were at their peak. The reason for public concern is because education and training is an important field for every nation and people, and is considered a top priority policy and measure for the development, prosperity and survival of the country.

Looking at the number of qualified professors and associate professors this time, many people are extremely worried and anxious, first of all because of the massive, sudden increase. However, looking at the world education quality assessment map, Vietnam is still somewhere... Looking at the list of the world's leading universities, Vietnam is not there.

Most recently, according to the annual rankings of Times Higher Education (THE), there were 350 ranked schools from 25 countries and territories, but there were no Vietnamese universities.

Vietnam has a very strong team of professors, associate professors, and doctors, but why are their names not listed or appear in any evaluations or rankings of international organizations? Is this worth pondering, when we just "close the door" and praise and honor each other, but when we go out to sea, we "sink"?

Taking advantage of this, I sincerely hope that the Prime Minister will conduct a general review of the process and quality of doctoral training and conferring the titles of professor and associate professor in our country. Because according to the people's supervision, if this is done strictly, many people will have to return their hats and robes to no longer be "masters" or "scholars"! Because in reality, there are many people who are using gifted or purchased degrees but they are rationalized and embellished in many files of cadres, civil servants and public employees./.
