Chancellor Merkel: Germany cannot shoulder the migration problem alone.
On September 20, Chancellor Merkel declared that Europe needs to share responsibility for the migration issue and that Germany will not accept immigrants who come to the country for economic reasons.
Merkel emphasized: “Germany is always ready to help, but this is not just a German issue, but a European one. Europe needs to act together and share responsibility. Germany cannot bear this responsibility alone.”

The German Chancellor also warned that immigrants seeking economic gain rather than fleeing war would not be accepted by the country.
"Germany is a powerful nation, but it would be unrealistic to assume that Germany alone can solve all global social problems," Merkel said.
"We are ready to provide shelter for those who truly need it, but I must say that those who come here for economic purposes will not be able to stay here," Merkel warned.
Merkel's strong words come amid a heated dispute between Hungary and Croatia over the influx of thousands of migrants into the two countries, creating deep divisions over how European nations should handle the issue.
It is expected that at a meeting on September 22nd, the Interior Ministers of European countries will discuss and agree on the distribution of 120,000 refugees across all European countries over the next two years.
