'Chancellor Merkel has completely isolated Germany'

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has lost her last ally in Europe, thus plunging her country into complete isolation, Die Welt newspaper writes.

Merkel's controversial solutions have turned her toward increasingly dire consequences.

Among the disaffected countries, two camps have formed: on one side - Greece, Portugal, Spain and Italy, countries that do not want to continue to endure Germany's economic coercion, on the other - Eastern European countries that no longer want to hear about the "open door" policy and accepting migrants, the newspaper commented.

European leaders have not hesitated to express their skepticism about the German Chancellor's optimistic forecasts. Italian Prime Minister Renzi harshly criticized the recent summit in Bratislava, calling the meeting nothing more than a "trip on the Danube" that could not influence the solution to the problems facing the EU.

If we take into account the hope that the Chancellor placed on this meeting to resolve the crisis, such a statement by her "old friend Renzi" became a real slap in the face for Merkel, the author of the article emphasized.

Apart from the Commission in Brussels, the German Chancellor has nowhere else to turn. One of her allies, British Prime Minister James Cameron, with whom she maintained an exemplary friendship, has faded into history.

A supporter of Merkel's policies, Austrian Chancellor Werner Faymann, was forced to resign because of mass migration. Other politicians - from Bratislava to Bucharest - do not understand why they should accept crowds of refugees when their own citizens are being forced to seek work in Western Europe, Welt newspaper reported.

It seems that the European "friends" that Mrs. Merkel had placed so much hope in are gradually turning into her enemies, and in the near future, the paths of Germany and European countries will become more distant, the author of the article concludes.
