Chancellor Merz: Germany no longer lives in peace, even though there is no war
Although the country is not in conflict, Chancellor Friedrich Merz said Germany is no longer living in peace.

According to RIA Novosti on September 27, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said that Germany no longer lives in peace, even though there is no war.
"We are not at war, but we are no longer at peace," the chancellor was quoted as saying by DPA at the Schwarz Ecosystem Summit for entrepreneurs in Berlin.
Germany faces drone flights, espionage, threats to "individual public figures", sabotage and cyber attacks, according to Chancellor Mertz.
Separately, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz criticized the United States for no longer playing by the rules, part of what he called a fundamental shift in Europe's transatlantic partnership.
"The rules are no longer being followed, parliamentary democracy is under pressure, freedom of expression is being questioned and the independence of the judiciary is being suppressed," Prime Minister Merz told the conference.
These changes have been happening for many years, and "they won't suddenly come back after the next election," the German leader said.
"I say this with the greatest regret," Prime Minister Merz added.
Germany, Europe's largest economy, is trying to position itself as a bastion of democracy that plays by the rules as leaders in the United States and other nations lean toward a new world order.
"Looking at the news every day, it is no longer obvious that countries comply with international rules, laws, treaties and obligations in many parts of the world," said Prime Minister Merz.
