Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev will pay an official visit to Vietnam from November 18 to 19 at the invitation of Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

Mr. Medvedev, 52 years old, was President of Russia from 2008 to 2012 before becoming Prime Minister. In May, the Russian State Duma approved Medvedev's nomination as Prime Minister until 2024.

Mr. Medvedev has visited Vietnam three times, the first time in 2010 as Russian president, the second time in 2012 and the most recent time in 2015.

Vietnam and Russia established diplomatic relations in 1950, then decided to elevate the relationship to a strategic partnership in 2001. Eleven years later, the two countries became comprehensive strategic partners. Relations between the two countries have been strengthened through the exchange of delegations and bilateral meetings at all levels.

After the Free Trade Agreement between Vietnam and the Eurasian Economic Union took effect in October 2016, trade value between the two countries grew strongly, reaching 5.3 billion USD in 2017.

In terms of investment, as of June, Russia had 117 direct investment projects in Vietnam with a total registered capital of nearly one billion USD. Meanwhile, Vietnam is implementing 22 projects worth nearly 3 billion USD in Russia.
