Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung requested relevant ministries and agencies to continue improving the policy system on people with disabilities; to research and amend inappropriate regulations related to people with disabilities, especially in vocational training and employment, inclusive education, and healthcare; and to link vocational training with job creation.

To commemorate Vietnam's Day for People with Disabilities, on the morning of April 6th, the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, the Vietnam Association for the Protection of Disabled People and Orphans, and Vietnam Television jointly organized the first "Walking Together in Love - Giving Hope" charity walk in 2014 at Crescent Lake, Phu My Hung, District 7, Ho Chi Minh City.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, along with representatives from ministries, departments, the Vietnam Fatherland Front, central organizations; leaders of Ho Chi Minh City; agencies, businesses, schools, social organizations, armed forces, and tens of thousands of people from Ho Chi Minh City, including about 500 people with disabilities and 200 orphans being cared for in the area, participated in this program.

The purpose of the Program is to motivate and encourage people to participate in caring for, assisting, sharing with, and accompanying people with disabilities in social activities, creating confidence to help people with disabilities build lives integrated into the community.

With the tradition of "loving others as you love yourself," Vietnamese people are compassionate, always showing empathy, solidarity, mutual support, respect, encouragement, and assistance to help those facing difficult and disadvantaged circumstances, including people with disabilities, to confidently integrate into community life.

Over the years, despite the country's many difficulties, the Party and the State have always prioritized resources and implemented many policies and programs to assist society, ensure the rights of people with disabilities, and promote their participation in social life.

The legal and policy system for people with disabilities is constantly being improved. Party committees, governments, and the Fatherland Front at all levels in localities and units regularly pay attention to and create favorable conditions to develop the capabilities and support people with disabilities and orphans, along with the joint efforts of the whole society and the sharing and assistance of international friends.

Efforts to care for people with disabilities have yielded many positive results in recent years. With the support of the State, people with disabilities receive medical examinations and treatment through health insurance cards, and are provided with legal assistance. Access to construction projects, infrastructure in transportation, culture, sports, education, vocational training, information technology, and many other fields has also become increasingly easier for people with disabilities.

In response to the care and support of the Party, the State, and domestic and international organizations and individuals, many people with disabilities have become more confident, constantly striving and training to become shining examples in many fields. Many people with disabilities have achieved high results in their studies, work, production, business, science and technology, culture, arts, and sports… Many disabled children and orphans are increasingly confident and steadfast on their educational path, preparing for life, establishing themselves, and building their careers.

Affirming that the Program is a meaningful social activity that contributes to encouraging, sharing, and helping people with disabilities, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung highly appreciated and commended the Party committees, government agencies, the Fatherland Front, and relevant departments for their efforts in leading, directing, and organizing the mobilization of all sectors of the population to effectively implement policies for the poor, vulnerable, and disadvantaged. The Prime Minister welcomed, acknowledged, and commended the noble hearts and good feelings of domestic businesses, organizations, and individuals, as well as international friends, who, despite difficulties, still save, share, and contribute to helping and encouraging people with disabilities and orphans.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung also warmly praised the outstanding efforts, the will to overcome challenges, and the confidence of people with disabilities and orphans in building their lives and integrating into the community.

According to Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung: “Vietnam is a country with a large number of people with disabilities. Like all of us, Vietnamese people with disabilities have the capacity and will to overcome difficulties, work diligently and creatively, and make positive contributions to socio-economic development.”

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung stated that although significant progress has been made in caring for people with disabilities, many families in various localities still face numerous difficulties, including poverty and deprivation. Many people with disabilities lack self-confidence, are unemployed, live in dilapidated housing, and many orphaned children do not attend school or receive adequate care. The awareness of some segments of the population and organizations remains inadequate, hindering the integration of people with disabilities into society. Support activities for people with disabilities and orphans in some ministries, sectors, and localities are insufficient; inspection and supervision of support activities for people with disabilities from the central to local levels are not regular, and coordination is untimely and ineffective. Many agencies, units, businesses, and production and business establishments do not employ people with disabilities, primarily due to a lack of understanding and recognition of their actual work capabilities.

To practically encourage, support, and assist people with disabilities, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung requested relevant ministries and agencies to continue improving the policy system regarding people with disabilities. He urged them to research, amend, and supplement inappropriate regulations related to people with disabilities, especially in vocational training and employment, inclusive education, and healthcare; and to link vocational training with job creation. He also called for effective policies to encourage people with disabilities to participate more in the labor market for the benefit of each individual, businesses, and society as a whole.

Strictly and fully implement the Law on Persons with Disabilities, creating favorable conditions for people with disabilities to access employment and integrate into the community. Party committees, government agencies, and the entire political system need to strengthen propaganda activities and raise awareness about people with disabilities; effectively implement policies, programs, and assistance for people with disabilities.

On this occasion, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung also called on all levels, sectors, organizations, individuals in the country and international friends to continue to pay attention to, help and accompany people with disabilities and orphans in an increasingly comprehensive and practical way.

At the program, agencies, organizations, units, and businesses donated over 10 billion VND to people with disabilities and orphans.
