On the afternoon of June 20th, at the Government Headquarters, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung received UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova, who was visiting and working in Vietnam.

Welcoming Ms. Iriana Bokova to Vietnam and to the 10th anniversary celebration of the Convention for the Protection of the World Intangible Cultural Heritage, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung thanked Ms. Iriana Bokova in particular and UNESCO in general for their support and assistance to Vietnam over the years.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung emphasized that Vietnam highly appreciates UNESCO's contributions to the world, the region, and Vietnam in the context of harmonious and sustainable development, and affirmed that Vietnam will continue to strengthen comprehensive cooperation with UNESCO.

With this shared spirit, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung expressed his hope that UNESCO would continue to support Vietnam in training human resources in the field of culture, and requested support for Vietnam's World Heritage nominations such as: the Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex (Ninh Binh), the Cat Ba Archaeological Complex (Hai Phong), Southern Vietnamese folk music and singing, and Nghe Tinh folk songs. Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung affirmed that Vietnam supports cooperation between ASEAN and UNESCO, including the signing of cooperation agreements between the two sides.

Thanking the Prime Minister for taking the time to meet, Ms. Irina Bokova emphasized that Vietnam plays a crucial role in UNESCO's role in enhancing understanding and cooperation among member states.

Ms. Irina Bokova highly appreciated Vietnam's efforts in preserving and protecting its heritage, as well as its progress in educational development and climate change adaptation. Ms. Irina Bokova affirmed that UNESCO will continue to support Vietnam in transferring expertise and sharing experiences in sustainable development; and expressed her hope for an early signing of a cooperation agreement between ASEAN and UNESCO.
