On the evening of May 15th (local time), Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and the Vietnamese delegation arrived in Minsk, the capital of the Republic of Belarus, beginning their official visit at the invitation of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus, M. Myasnikovich.

Welcoming Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung at the airport were leaders of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus; and officials and staff of the Vietnamese Embassy in Belarus.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung's official visit to the Republic of Belarus, from May 15-17, affirmed the importance of developing and strengthening traditional friendly relations with Belarus, enhancing good political relations, and creating a foundation for expanding and deepening cooperation in the fields of economics, trade, security, defense, education and training, etc.

Vietnam and Belarus have a long-standing friendship and good cooperation. Belarus values ​​the development of cooperative relations with Vietnam in various fields; the two countries regularly exchange delegations at all levels.

Economic and trade relations between Vietnam and Belarus have developed steadily, with bilateral trade reaching nearly US$190 million in 2012. Currently, both sides are strongly promoting cooperation in areas of strength such as heavy industry, energy, agriculture, processing industry, science and technology, etc.

The two sides signed an Economic Cooperation Program for the period 2013-2015 with the goal of increasing bilateral trade to US$1 billion in the coming years. Belarus participated in the first round of negotiations on a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Vietnam and the Customs Union (comprising Russia, Kazakhstan, and Belarus) at the end of March 2013 in Hanoi.
