At the Conference, delegates will focus on assessing the current state of labor productivity (LS) in Vietnam, identifying factors affecting LS and proposing solutions to improve national LS, especially in the context of the 4.0 industrial revolution.

The conference will hear the report "Labor productivity and key solutions to promote labor productivity growth in Vietnam" by the Ministry of Planning and Investment, the report "Science, technology and innovation contribute to increasing labor productivity" by the Ministry of Science and Technology, the report "Quality of Vietnam's human resources: Current situation and solutions" by the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, the report "New economic model and impact on labor productivity" by the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences.

According to the General Statistics Office, the total labor productivity of the economy at current prices in 2018 is estimated at 102.2 million VND/worker (equivalent to 4,521 USD/worker).

If in 2011, the labor productivity of Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia was 17.6 times, 6.3 times, 2.9 times, and 2.4 times higher than that of Vietnam, then by 2018 this relative gap had decreased to 13.7 times, 5.3 times, 2.7 times, and 2.2 times, respectively.

The mining industry has the highest labor productivity. Agriculture, forestry and fishery is the industry with the lowest labor productivity among economic sectors.

In recent years, Vietnam's agricultural, forestry and fishery production has had the highest average growth rate of labor productivity at 5.2% per year in the period 2011-2018. However, the agricultural, forestry and fishery sector has a very low labor productivity, the lowest among economic sectors, by 2018 at current prices reaching 39.8 million VND/worker, only equal to 38.9% of the labor productivity of the entire economy.

Labor productivity in the enterprise sector is more than 3 times higher than the general labor productivity level of the whole country. Compared to other types of enterprises, labor productivity of non-state enterprises is the lowest.

According to the General Statistics Office, factors affecting the increase in labor productivity in Vietnam are the small size of the economy; the process of shifting the labor structure in a positive but slow direction; outdated machinery, equipment and technological processes; limited quality of human resources; The level of organization, management and efficiency of resource use is still inadequate; the business sector is not really the decisive driving force for the growth of labor productivity of the economy.
