Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc sends strong message at G20
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc affirmed that Vietnam will strive to soon complete the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations.
At the invitation of German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Chair of the G20 Group in 2017, on the afternoon of July 7 local time, or the night of July 7 Vietnam time, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc led the Vietnamese delegation to begin attending the activities of the G20 Summit in Hamburg, Germany.

During the discussion sessions on the first day of the G20 Summit on July 7, the Conference assessed that the world economic recovery is progressing more positively, but the growth rate is still slower than expected; affirmed the commitment to strengthen cooperation, synchronously use fiscal and monetary policies, structural reforms, and fight against protectionism to ensure global macroeconomic stability, promote growth and inclusion.
The conference called for increased cooperation in implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development; committed to integrating the implementation of the 2030 Agenda into G20 activities; committed to reducing emissions through increased research and development of clean energy, and efficient use of energy...
The conference noted the US withdrawal from the Paris Agreement on climate change; and stressed that other G20 member countries continue to implement their commitments under the Paris Agreement, including the commitment to support developing countries in mitigating the impacts of and adapting to climate change.
Invited to speak as a keynote speaker at the Discussion Session on Sustainable Development, Climate Change and Energy, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc delivered a strong message on the importance of enhancing cooperation in responding to climate change.
The Prime Minister emphasized that Vietnam is one of the countries most severely affected by climate change and rising sea levels, and is also negatively impacted by the unsustainable exploitation and use of Mekong River water resources.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc affirmed that Vietnam will strive to complete the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG-2030) of the United Nations as soon as possible, with priority given to issues of poverty reduction, inequality, education, renewable energy, and climate change response; has been integrating climate change response activities into development planning and plans, and seriously implementing the 8% reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, which could be reduced by up to 25% if receiving effective international support...
As the host of APEC 2017, Vietnam has promoted priority topics in the APEC 2017 Agenda, including sustainable development, climate change response and energy efficiency; and is coordinating with APEC members to promote in-depth exchanges on inclusive development in terms of economy, society and finance.
The Prime Minister welcomed the G20's unanimous commitment to ensuring the effective and responsible management and use of water resources; and called on the G20 and the international community to enhance responsibility, self-reliance, seriously implement international commitments, coordinate effective actions, and increase financial and technological support for developing countries in realizing sustainable and inclusive development goals.
This year's G20 Summit takes place in a context of profound changes in the world's politics and economy. This is the most important G20 conference in 2017, attracting the participation of senior leaders of G20 member countries, guest countries including Vietnam, Singapore, Spain, Norway, the Netherlands, Guinea - Chair of the African Union, Senegal - Chair of the New Partnership for African Development - NEPAD, leaders of leading international organizations such as the United Nations (UN), the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Bank (WB), the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), the International Labor Organization (ILO), the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the World Health Organization (WHO).
Vietnam attended the 2017 G20 Summit as the host of APEC 2017. This was the third time Vietnam attended the G20 Summit. In 2010, Vietnam attended the G20 Summit in Canada and South Korea as ASEAN Chair. In 2017, Vietnam actively participated in discussions at most important G20 conferences, contributing many responsible opinions in the process of building the Joint Statement and G20 documents./.
