The Prime Minister assessed that after discovering the first patient, Da Nang city proactively surrounded and isolated the outbreak; the health sector increased its expertise and sent staff directly to the locality to support the handling; Military Region 5 mobilized chemical troops to disinfect the area where the positive patient was. Quang Ngai province has put the patient in quarantine.
Da Nang has proactively implemented social distancing measures such as not gathering more than 30 people; passengers are advised to leave Da Nang. Airlines have proactively increased dozens of flights to take passengers out of Da Nang. The Ministry of Information and Communications has proactively deployed specialized measures to trace. The Ministry of Public Security has actively handled the case of illegally bringing people into Vietnam; the Ministry of National Defense has proactively taken measures to review and strengthen control of border areas and border gates. Some localities have proactively taken measures to ensure safety for people returning from Da Nang.
However, the Prime Minister said that the situation is becoming more and more complicated, not only is the number of Covid-19 cases increasing, but a case of SARS-COV-2 virus infection has been discovered in Da Nang, a new strain of virus imported into Vietnam with the characteristic that when a patient is infected with this virus, the condition is very serious and requires immediate ventilation.
Faced with that situation, the Prime Minister requested to continue to heighten vigilance with strong measures, not to let surprises happen nationwide; by all means not to let the virus spread in Da Nang and other localities.
The Prime Minister also directed the Party Committee and the Government of Da Nang City to consider the implementation of epidemic prevention tasks, especially the implementation of Directive 16 of the Prime Minister at a high level, as an important political task. In addition, neighboring provinces and the Central region must have proactive response measures. Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City must also have specific plans because there may be a large number of tourists from these two cities who are vacationing in Da Nang.
Reporting at the meeting, Acting Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long said that the epidemic may have appeared since early July and there are likely to be many more cases. The epidemic started in the community with a new strain of SARS-CoV-2 virus, but it has not been confirmed which country it came from and it is likely to infect others.
The Ministry of Health has activated the highest measures with the most elite team to prevent and fight the epidemic. The Ministry of Health recommends that Da Nang City needs to speed up measures, be more drastic, and coordinate to trace the source of community infection. The Ministry also recommends that citizens who have arrived and left Da Nang since July 1 need to declare to local authorities and self-monitor and self-isolate./.
