The Prime Minister's surprise inspection began at 6:30 a.m. |
At about 5:45 a.m. earlier, the Prime Minister's motorcade and the city's leaders rolled from the center of Ho Chi Minh City toward Binh Chanh district in heavy rain. Accompanying the Prime Minister were Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam, Chairman of the City People's Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong, Standing Deputy Secretary Tat Thanh Cang, and Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Bui Xuan Cuong.
At the Tu Anh food processing facility in Vinh Loc A (Binh Chanh), the Prime Minister went straight to the kitchen, personally picked up a piece of rice on a freshly scooped tray, tasted it and commented as above. Holding vegetables that the staff was peeling, the Prime Minister asked in detail about the origin of the vegetables, meat and fish being processed. After listening to the owner's presentation, the Prime Minister asked to bring out the entire contract for comparison. He said: "The contract is correct. But we have to go down to the site to check it. We cannot let quality be controlled only on paper."
Then, turning to the Ho Chi Minh City leaders present, he asked, "Do the city's agencies regularly inspect this facility? Bring me the minutes."
Surprised by the Prime Minister's detailed inspection, the owner of Tu Anh facility spent nearly 10 minutes to provide the Prime Minister with all the inspection records on the hygiene and safety of the meals. The Prime Minister flipped through each page, looked at it very carefully and instructed: "Today I made a surprise inspection, everything is fine like this. But we have to check every day and every hour. The meals must always be clean, delicious, and ensure the health of the tens of thousands of people we provide."
At 7:20 a.m., the Prime Minister's motorcade continued to roll.
At 7:45 a.m., the Prime Minister suddenly stopped by Pho Phu Cuong restaurant on Nguyen Hau street, Tan Phu district. The Prime Minister personally checked the broth and praised it for its aroma, then decided to have breakfast with the group there. The owner of Pho Phu Cuong restaurant, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Vien, was so surprised when the Prime Minister stopped by to check it out that she decided to stay for breakfast.
After a moment of confusion, Ms. Vien answered many questions from the Prime Minister about food processing and origin.
