The work "The Mark of Time" is divided into 4 parts, vividly depicting 4 French intellectuals who devoted all their talents and knowledge to contribute to Vietnam and their cultural imprints. Specifically: Doctor, microbiologist Alexandre Yersin, female archaeologist Madeleine Colani, painter Victor Tardieu, anti-fascist intellectual Raymond Aubrac.

According to Hanoia, the lacquer painting is made on the basis of traditional lacquer techniques, using lacquered wood combined with gold leaf. The screen box is made from fabric fibers, laminated many times to create the core. Then, through the process of painting and polishing repeated many times on the fabric surface, the lacquer layer will become deep, shiny, lustrous, and smooth.

The gift was given by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc to French President Francois Hollande during the meeting between the two leaders.
Mr. Hollande landed in Hanoi last night, beginning a visit to Vietnam that will last until September 7. The visit marks the first time a French president has visited Vietnam in 12 years. Mr. Hollande is the third French president to visit Vietnam, following President Francois Mitterrand in 1993 and President Jacques Chirac in 1997 and 2004.
