On the afternoon of November 10 in Da Nang, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc received leaders of major corporations attending the APEC Business Summit.

Receiving Chairman of China Southern Power Grid Group Li Qingkui, the Prime Minister highly appreciated the Group's determination to put Unit 1 of Vinh Tan 1 Thermal Power Plant, a project signed at the 2006 APEC Summit in Vietnam, into operation in June next year. If put into operation as planned, the project will be completed 6 months ahead of schedule.

The Prime Minister also welcomed the Southern Power Grid Group's desire to establish a joint venture with Vietnam Electricity Group to invest in other power plant projects under the BOT form.

However, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc especially noted that the Group must pay close attention to the issue of ash and dust treatment to protect the environment when building and operating thermal power plants in Vietnam.

Accordingly, the Group must have solutions so that thermal power plants do not affect sea tourism in Binh Thuan province as well as not adversely affect aquaculture areas in the Mekong Delta.

The Prime Minister asked the Group's leaders to share China's experience and find solutions to effectively use slag from thermal power plants to make roadbeds or construction materials.

Receiving the Chairman of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Mr. Omiya Hideaki, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc highly appreciated the Group's effective investment in a number of high-tech projects in Vietnam, including an aircraft component manufacturing plant in Hanoi.

Currently, Mitsubishi is providing a number of scholarships for excellent Vietnamese students to study for 5 years at university in Japan and then return to Vietnam to work.

Previously, Boeing aircraft wing components manufactured in Vietnam had to be brought to Japan for inspection before being exported to the US. Now, all products, including Boeing 777 aircraft doors, a product requiring high levels of science and technology, are manufactured in Vietnam and exported directly to the US.

From this success, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc asked Mitsubishi to expand investment in high-tech projects in Vietnam as well as expand training of technicians and engineers from talented Vietnamese students.

Earlier the same day, in Da Nang, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc met with leaders of domestic and foreign businesses sponsoring the APEC Summit Week.

At the meeting, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc highly appreciated the businesses that sponsored this important political, economic and foreign affairs event of Vietnam to join the Government in making APEC 2017 a success. The Prime Minister emphasized that the APEC High-Level Week is of great significance because it has brought together leaders and businesses of the world's leading economies.

This is an important opportunity for Vietnam to further promote the trade liberalization process, and at the same time, it is also an opportunity for member economies to better understand the people, investment and business environment in Vietnam. Therefore, sponsors have accompanied and joined hands with the Government to make the APEC High-Level Week a success, through which the Leaders of 21 APEC member economies will propose optimal solutions to together "create new momentum, together foster a common future"./.
