On the afternoon of November 30, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and the National Assembly delegation of Hai Phong city met with voters of Cat Hai district to report on the results of the 8th session of the 14th National Assembly, and to listen to and answer voters' petitions.
Excited about the country's remarkable socio-economic achievements, Cat Ba town voters said that despite many difficulties in 2019, the country's socio-economic sector still achieved a very encouraging and proud growth rate. In particular, in 2019, the economic growth rate was the highest in the past 9 years, the highest among countries in the region. Foreign affairs had impressive activities, Vietnam's position was raised in the international arena.

Speaking at the meeting, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc expressed his joy and thanked voters for their enthusiastic and responsible comments.

Informing voters about the country's socio-economic situation in 2019, the Prime Minister stated that in the context of general difficulties due to the impact of the global economic and trade downturn along with the impact of natural disasters and epidemics in the country, Vietnam's economy remains stable and growing at a high level, integrating more and more deeply into the world economy.

In particular, people's living standards have improved significantly, the gap between rich and poor has decreased. The trust of the masses in the Party's leadership and the Government's management has been constantly enhanced.

Expressing his opinion at the meeting, voter Pham Nghiem (Cat Ba town) said that the management of the Government and the Prime Minister is very close and decisive in terms of tasks, especially in difficult, remote and isolated areas and in sensitive, complicated and prominent issues, including the work of preventing and fighting corruption.

Expressing pride in Vietnam being the ASEAN Chair and a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council in 2020, voter Nguyen Van Chuong (Cat Hai town) asked the Prime Minister to provide solutions to fulfill this great responsibility.

Voter Nguyen Van Chuong also asked the Prime Minister to provide more information about the Prime Minister's guiding viewpoints in economic and cultural development: "Strive to become an economic power but also become a cultural power to succeed."

Answering voter Nguyen Van Chuong's question, the Prime Minister stated that Vietnam is honored to take on two important roles in 2020: ASEAN Chair and non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.

The Prime Minister affirmed that Vietnam will do its utmost to fulfill these two roles well. These are also the heavy international and regional responsibilities of our Party, State and people in the coming year.

Specifically, regarding the role of ASEAN Chair, the Prime Minister said that in 2019, there were more than 300 meetings in many fields, many levels of ministries and related sectors that the ASEAN Chair 2020 - Vietnam - had to organize. Along with that, there were about 400 meetings in the role of a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council that Vietnam had to participate in.

The Prime Minister further informed voters that the Government has established relevant sub-committees and regularly directed the good implementation of preparatory work, ensuring the success of these two great foreign affairs roles; successfully organizing relevant conferences to thereby further enhance Vietnam's role and position in the international arena.

Regarding the viewpoint of "striving to become an economic power but also a cultural power to succeed", the Prime Minister clearly stated that the 54 ethnic groups in Vietnam have an extremely valuable asset which is national culture and the strength of solidarity, love and mutual assistance.

In the context of the country's deep and comprehensive integration in both economy and culture, paying attention to preserving and promoting traditional cultural features, the unique culture of each ethnic group and the country's culture, ensuring material and spiritual needs for the people is a task of equal importance to economic development, which needs to be effectively implemented.

Voter Doan Thi Tien (Cat Ba town) expressed concern about the increasing trend of production, processing and consumption of unsafe food, which not only seriously affects people's health but also creates insecurity in society.

Voters expect the Government and authorities at all levels to have synchronous, long-term, and feasible action programs to create fundamental changes in awareness and sense of social responsibility of households and businesses producing, processing, and trading food.

Voters also requested the Government to have solutions to support and encourage the application of science and technology and high-tech agricultural development models to improve the quality of agricultural products and increase farmers' income. In particular, it is necessary to strictly handle establishments producing and trading unsafe food, so that unsafe food is no longer a daily concern for people.

Sharing the concerns of delegate Doan Thi Tien about food hygiene and safety, the Prime Minister stated that the Government has issued many directives and instructions to strictly handle violations of food hygiene and safety, especially in stores, supermarkets and food production facilities. Therefore, the number of violations of food hygiene and safety has decreased significantly in recent times.

However, the Prime Minister also frankly admitted that violations in this field still recur. At the meeting, the Prime Minister directed the Ministry of Industry and Trade and related sectors to investigate and strictly handle violations to help "people live healthier lives".

Along with that, the Prime Minister also requested each family and neighborhood to closely monitor food production and trading activities in the locality; to avoid the situation of "two pigs in two pens, two vegetables in two beds".

Responding to voter Pham Truong (Cat Hai district) about solutions to support and remove difficulties for the private economy, especially small and medium enterprises, the Prime Minister pointed out that the private economic sector is increasingly contributing to the country's GDP growth. The whole country is also striving to reach the milestone of 1 million private enterprises by 2020.

Emphasizing that the private economy plays an increasingly important role in job creation and contributing to the country's economic growth, the Prime Minister also cited specific examples such as the emergence of large-scale corporations that are changing Hai Phong city such as SunGroup, VinGroup, Vietjet, FLC...
