Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on February 6th commented on China's targeting of a Japanese warship with its fire control radar, calling it a "dangerous act," amid escalating territorial disputes between the two countries in the East China Sea.

"That was a dangerous act that could lead to an unpredictable situation," Abe said in the Japanese parliament. "It is extremely regrettable. We are trying to get them to exercise restraint to avoid unnecessary escalation."

The previous day, Japanese Defense Minister Itsunori Onodera said that Chinese ships had aimed their fire control radar at both Japanese naval vessels and military helicopters.
