33/63 provinces and cities have organic agriculture models

Here, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Xuan Cuong said that organic agricultural production is a production method based on natural environmental factors, protecting the environment, maintaining and protecting sustainable ecosystems to create nutritious products for human needs. Production and use of organic products is a growing trend.

In the world, there are about 50 million hectares of organic agricultural land. Recently, this trend has developed quite rapidly, creating an organic agricultural market with a commercial value of nearly 100 billion USD, especially in developed countries, clearly demonstrating this trend.

In our country, in recent years, organic agricultural production has been paid attention to develop. Up to now, 33 provinces and cities have had organic agricultural production models with an area of about 70,000 hectares with diverse forms, scales and products.

However, the leaders of the Ministry of Agriculture said that organic agricultural production is still very small in terms of production scale as well as consumption market.

Minister Nguyen Xuan Cuong said that in the near future, switching to an organic agricultural production direction with a tightly controlled process, strictly adhering to input standards in the production cycle, and building and developing new markets will be difficult, even very difficult.

"Therefore, we need to take synchronous action at the Government, business and farmer levels, along with international acceptance, sharing and cooperation. This is also a process that requires a change in awareness in management, production and consumption," said Mr. Cuong.

International Forum "Vietnam Organic Agriculture - Development and Integration" with nearly 500 domestic and foreign delegates, representing state management agencies, economic sectors, producers, consumer representatives, associations, and industries.

Accordingly, delegates will share experiences on orientations and solutions for developing organic agriculture in Vietnam in the coming time. This is also an opportunity to promote, connect experts and cooperate with domestic and foreign organic agriculture production enterprises.
