Thai Prime Minister calls for King's last wishes to be carried out

King Adulyadej passed away on the afternoon of October 13, mourned by the people after 7 decades of reigning in the Kingdom of Thailand.

Thousands of people gathered at Siriraj Hospital in Bangkok, where King Bhumibol Adulyadej had been receiving treatment, to pray as his health deteriorated. When they heard the official news that he had passed away, they burst into tears in great grief.
In a televised address to the nation, Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha said that despite the sadness, Thailand must move forward.
Thai Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha emphasized: "We cannot let the sadness of His Majesty's passing affect the implementation of his wishes to see the country develop and prosper, and the people live in peace, happiness, love and friendship."

Prime Minister Prayut also called on all Thai people regardless of faith to pray for the repose of the King's soul.
Later that day, Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha said that Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn had confirmed that he would succeed his father, although the special session did not formally crown him as his successor. However, he also said that "we will wait for the right time", as Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn had requested time to mourn his father along with the entire people.
It is expected that this afternoon, October 14, the body of King Bhumibol Adulyadej will be transferred from Siriraj Hospital to the Royal Palace. Funeral ceremonies will be held afterwards. Thailand will mourn King Bhumibol Adulyadej for one year and all entertainment activities, festivals, etc. will not be held within one month from the day of the King's death.
