The Mekong Delta is suffering from major impacts of climate change, rising sea levels and upstream activities. These negative impacts have changed the natural advantages for development and ensuring the livelihoods of people in the past.
Therefore, the Conference on Transforming the Sustainable Development Model of the Mekong Delta, Adapting to Climate Change, which is taking place on the largest scale ever, is considered a "dien hong conference" for scientists and experts at home and abroad to "give advice" to help the Government and localities of the Mekong Delta identify groups of strategic solutions for large-scale transformation to sustainably develop the Mekong Delta with a vision to 2100.

The results of the Prime Minister's inspection trip, together with reports from ministries and branches, will provide a comprehensive, clear, scientific picture of the impact of climate change on the entire Mekong Delta region, thereby making accurate decisions for the entire region.
Previously, during his visit to the Netherlands last July, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc flew by helicopter to survey the planning of the delta region and observed water control works and sea dykes in some important basins and coastal areas of the Netherlands, a typical country in responding to and adapting to climate change. The Prime Minister discussed with the Dutch Government the selection of the Mekong Delta region to build a model for transforming the sustainable development model, combining high technology with the inheritance of indigenous knowledge./.
