This second visit to Europe by Mr. Li Keqiang takes place in the context of the European Union (EU) increasing sanctions against Russia due to its involvement in the crisis in Ukraine.

In response to these sanctions, Russian President Vladimir Putin has turned to China, and in May the two countries signed a $400 billion gas supply deal. Moscow says bilateral trade between the two countries will double by 2020.
Recently, the Chinese ambassador in Berlin (Germany) said that China is ready to "seize" any business opportunities in Russia in the context of deteriorating Russia-Europe relations.
According to Xinhua News Agency, in Russia, Mr. Li Keqiang will sign more than 30 agreements with Russia on financial cooperation, energy and high-speed railway. Meanwhile, in Germany, he will hold talks with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and will also sign a series of agreements./.
