Prime Minister: The Vietnam Fatherland Front and the Government both care for the people and have the same goal of serving the people, so we must do what is necessary for the people.

On the morning of January 5, in Ho Chi Minh City, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc attended and spoke at the 8th Conference of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front.

Also attending the conference were Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Mass Mobilization Commission Truong Thi Mai; Politburo member, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan; along with leaders, former leaders of the Party, State and many representatives of intellectuals, people from all walks of life, and overseas Vietnamese.

Speaking at the conference, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc emphasized the need to implement a Government of action, integrity, development creation, serving the people, creating trust and enthusiasm for people to contribute to socio-economic development. With the positive socio-economic achievements of 2017, there were great contributions from the Vietnam Fatherland Front and its member organizations, contributing significantly to the successful implementation of political tasks, promoting socio-economic development of the whole country and localities.

The Prime Minister assessed that the Vietnam Fatherland Front has done a good job of gathering people from all walks of life, consolidating and promoting the strength of the great national unity bloc. Listening to and gathering people's recommendations and aspirations to reflect to the Party, the State, Party committees at all levels, and the government, especially on promoting democracy, developing the economy, culture, and caring for people's lives, to implement the motto of building a State of the people, by the people, and for the people.

“In all monthly Government meetings, we invite comrades to speak up to reflect the thoughts, aspirations, and proposals of the Vietnam Fatherland Front to all levels of government and the Government of Vietnam. This is the spirit of a sincere attitude, seriously listening to both sides to understand the people, grasp the thoughts, aspirations, and expectations of the people. In 2017, the Vietnam Fatherland Front at the provincial level alone had 2,578 reports synthesizing 113,241 opinions and recommendations of the people, reflecting them to Party and State agencies. Major recommendations must be focused on to be resolved to bring peace to the people as it is now,” the Prime Minister emphasized.

The Government also highly appreciated the Vietnam Fatherland Front in supporting the vulnerable and the poor who suffered losses due to natural disasters and floods, demonstrating profound humanity. The Front has promoted the people's creativity, launched campaigns and patriotic emulation movements with practical and attractive content, especially the campaign on building new rural areas and civilized urban areas, the campaign on hunger eradication, poverty reduction, assisting people affected by storms and floods, and solving other pressing issues.

The Prime Minister also agreed with the opinion of delegate Duong Trung Quoc on raising the status of Vietnamese goods in the Vietnamese market instead of simply campaigning for Vietnamese people to prioritize using Vietnamese goods. The Prime Minister also listened to the opinions of the delegates and emphasized that the Government and the Vietnam Fatherland Front should coordinate to effectively implement the movements.

In the work of social supervision and criticism, the Prime Minister highly appreciated the Vietnam Fatherland Front for doing well in this work, contributing to building a strong Party and Government. Especially in the work of complaints and denunciations, ensuring food safety and hygiene, production and trading of agricultural materials, implementing tax and customs policies, etc. The Prime Minister affirmed that the Government always listens to the opinions of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, listens to and handles recommendations.

The Prime Minister stated that over the years, the Government and the Vietnam Fatherland Front have always maintained and implemented a good coordination mechanism. In 2017, the effectiveness of coordination between the Government and the Vietnam Fatherland Front was further enhanced, especially in monitoring and social criticism activities, focusing on the settlement of complaints and denunciations, the publication of inspection conclusions, the development of science and technology, food safety, the protection of the legitimate rights and interests of the people, and the effective implementation of movements and campaigns.

“I think that the Vietnam Fatherland Front and the Government both care for the people, with the same goal of serving the people. For the people, we must do what is necessary for the people. Supervision is necessary to build our system better than caring for the people,” the Prime Minister emphasized.

In the coming time, the Prime Minister suggested that the Vietnam Fatherland Front participate in monitoring more major issues that people are concerned about, such as administrative procedure reform, improving the business environment, assessing people's satisfaction with improving public administrative services, responsibility of leaders in preventing and combating corruption, and comprehensive reform of education and training.

Stating that 2018 is a pivotal year for implementing the socio-economic tasks for the 2016-2020 period, the Prime Minister hopes that the Vietnam Fatherland Front will coordinate with the Government to further promote its important role in spreading and strengthening the determination and solidarity of the whole country to carry out this task; strengthening the people's trust in the Party and the State. Along with that, it is necessary to do better in social security work, care for the poor, the disabled, the elderly, and strengthen environmental protection work to serve the people.

Uncle Ho said: If the roots are strong, the tree will last / Building a victory tower on the people's foundation. The government aims at the people, the Vietnam Fatherland Front also aims at the people to mobilize the people, understand the policies and guidelines, and at the same time monitor those policies, so that our strength and unity with 100 million people is very important.

In the work of Party building, fighting degradation, self-evolution, and self-transformation among Party members and cadres, and fighting corruption, the Prime Minister suggested that the Vietnam Fatherland Front must be a place where all people can reflect and denounce cadres who show signs of degradation and harassment of the people. The Prime Minister said he fully supports the anti-corruption action program that the Vietnam Fatherland Front proposed at the conference.

According to the report of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, last year, the Front performed well the task of propagating and mobilizing people of all walks of life to implement the Party's guidelines and the State's laws and policies. Including the Project on Innovation in Information and Propaganda Work of the Vietnam Fatherland Front. Propagating the campaign "All people unite to build new rural areas and civilized urban areas" associated with the movement "The whole country joins hands to build new rural areas"; the campaign "Vietnamese people prioritize using Vietnamese goods".

The Vietnam Fatherland Front has also organized meetings, listened to and collected people's opinions and aspirations, and reported over 113,200 opinions and recommendations to Party and State agencies. Many localities have formed groups to grasp public opinion among the people.

The work of social supervision and criticism, participation in Party building and government building has been implemented more closely and effectively. The “Handbook of Social Supervision and Criticism of the Vietnam Fatherland Front” has been issued.

Responding to the emulation movement "The whole country joins hands for the poor - No one is left behind" launched by the Prime Minister, on the occasion of the Peak Month for the Poor, the Standing Committee of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front organized the event "Joining hands for the poor" in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, receiving support of 264 billion VND./.
