Prime Minister, please tell us your feelings about Hanoi, Vietnam being chosen as the venue for the second US-North Korea Summit?
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc:The fact that Vietnam's capital Hanoi was chosen as the venue for the second US-North Korea Summit is a clear demonstration of Vietnam's growing role and position in the region and the world.
This event contributes to realizing the motto "Vietnam is an active and responsible member of the international community."has been deployed by our Party since the 11th Party Congress (2011). Being responsible means that Vietnam actively participates in finding solutions to hot issues in the region and the world, bringing peace, stability and development. In line with the direction of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong at the Diplomatic Conference in August 2018, it is "beyond the current framework".
Indeed, since joining the United Nations in 1977, Vietnam has been a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the 2008-2009 term and is currently the sole candidate of the Asia-Pacific group for the 2020-2021 term. In the region, Vietnam is an important member of ASEAN, a rapidly growing economy within ASEAN and also an important diplomatic partner for many countries around the world.
With experience in organizing large-scale summits such as APEC 2017 and WEF ASEAN 2018, Vietnam will strive to successfully organize the second US-North Korea Summit. Up to now, Hanoi has basically completed preparations in all aspects. You can see the streets filled with fluttering flags, bright flowers and feel the excitement and bright smiles of the people welcoming international friends.
Through this Conference, it is hoped that Vietnam will become a "bridge" for the process of resolving the nuclear issue on the Korean peninsula, playing the role of a partner contributing to building peace on the Korean peninsula and the region.
In the coming time, as ASEAN Chair in 2020 and a candidate for the position of non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2020-2021 term, Vietnam believes it will make more positive contributions to the peace process on the Korean Peninsula and to peace and sustainable development in the world.
I believe that, by always being a responsible, dedicated and devoted member of the international community, Vietnam will become a reliable address for many international issues and major international conferences of the region and the world in the future.
Thank you very much, Prime Minister, for your interview!
