Statistics show that the value of agricultural production increased by 3.33%; the total added value (GDP) of the industry in 2022 is estimated to increase by over 3%. Notably, the export turnover of the industry reached over 53.22 billion USD, an increase of 9.3% compared to 2021. This is also the highest level in history, exceeding the target set at the beginning of the year of 50 billion USD.
Of which, main agricultural product exports reached 22.59 billion USD, up 4.8%; main forestry products reached 16.93 billion USD, up 6.1%; aquatic products reached 10.92 billion USD, up 22.9%; livestock reached 400 million USD, down 7.1%.
In 2022, there will be 11 groups of agricultural products joining the "billion-dollar export club" including: coffee, rubber, rice, vegetables, cashews, shrimp, pangasius, wood products, cassava and cassava products, animal feed and raw materials, and fertilizers.
It is worth noting that many groups of commodities set new records in exports. For example, forestry exports reached 16.93 billion USD; aquatic product exports were bumper, reaching 10.92 billion USD, of which tra fish, shrimp, and tuna all set new records; rice reached 3.49 billion USD, exceeding the set target (3.2-3.3 billion USD).
The trade surplus of the entire agricultural sector in 2022 is estimated at 8.5 billion USD, an increase of 30% over last year.
Speaking to the press, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan said that this is a very proud result. However, "it is not just because of this or that number", but the agricultural sector is still standing firm, ensuring food security, social security, etc. More importantly, the agricultural economic thinking has begun to take root, doing what the market needs instead of selling what you have. Farmers and businesses have known how to take better care of their products to meet market standards and regulations.
The Minister commented that 2023 will be even more difficult as global inflation permeates and spreads to other countries, and standards and regulations on goods in markets become increasingly strict... We must have a proactive adaptation plan.
"Every change is difficult, but not changing will be even more difficult. Change can create a new image, new values, new brands and create many new jobs," the Minister emphasized.
