Raising the national flag to celebrate National Reunification Day

On the morning of April 30, at the Hien Luong-Ben Hai National Special Monument, Quang Tri province solemnly held a flag-raising ceremony to celebrate the 42nd anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2017) and the 45th anniversary of the Liberation of Quang Tri province (May 1, 1972 - May 1, 2017).

Politburo member, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh; Minister of Information and Communications Truong Minh Tuan; Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, Chairman of Vietnam Journalists Association Thuan Huu, leaders of Quang Tri province, heroic Vietnamese mothers, heroes of the armed forces, veterans and a large number of people on both sides of Hien Luong - Ben Hai... attended the ceremony.

The flag-raising ceremony took place in a solemn and emotional atmosphere right at the historical monument on both banks of Hien Luong-Ben Hai, the place that witnessed the pain of dividing the country for 21 years.

This is also the place where the national flag - the symbol of the sacred soul of the mountains and rivers, of the will, of the belief and strength of Vietnam - proudly flies with national pride, belief, will and invincible strength of the Vietnamese revolution, the brilliant color of the history of the struggle to build and defend the Fatherland.

Speaking at the ceremony, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Council of Quang Tri province Nguyen Van Hung reviewed the heroic history of the country and homeland; honored the immortal feats and priceless sacrifices of compatriots and comrades from the North and South to realize the sacred and burning aspiration of "Independence, freedom and national reunification".

Mr. Nguyen Van Hung also informed that after 45 years of liberation, the Party Committee, government and people of Quang Tri have gradually healed the wounds of war, overcome difficulties and challenges, and achieved proud achievements. The province's economic growth in the past term reached 7.4%, GRDP per capita reached 36 million VND, local budget revenue increased by 16.6%/year, and people's lives have gradually improved...

Promoting the glorious tradition, the Party Committee, government and people of Quang Tri province are increasingly aware of their responsibilities, making every effort to preserve and honor the fine traditions; upholding the will to overcome all difficulties and challenges to build and protect the homeland; focusing on successfully implementing the set goals and tasks, striving to develop the province quickly and sustainably.

Also on this occasion, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh and delegates offered incense and laid wreaths in memory of heroic martyrs at Truong Son Martyrs Cemetery, Road 9 Martyrs Cemetery and Quang Tri Ancient Citadel.
