Rand Paul, head of the US delegation to Russia, held a meeting with lawmakers of the Russian Federation Council, led by the head of the Federation Council's Foreign Affairs Committee Konstantin Kosachev.
“We want to have an open relationship even with countries that we may have disagreements with. I believe we need more cultural exchanges, more legislative exchanges, more ways to communicate. We need a dialogue between the Foreign Affairs Committees of both sides, and I hope that over time the dialogue between the two countries will improve,” Paul said.
Representatives of the US delegation also invited Russian lawmakers to Washington for talks with their US counterparts, adding later that the meeting could also be held in a third country.
“I am honored to announce that we will continue to have these conversations. We have invited members of the Russian Foreign Affairs Committee to Washington for an upcoming meeting, and will arrange for the meeting to be held in a neutral third country,” the US senator said.
Mr. Kosachev shared the main points after meeting with Paul, that lawmakers can discuss decrees, sustainable strategy and economic issues this August, before the midterm elections for the Chairman of the US Foreign Affairs Committee.
