Deputy Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Federation Council of Russia, head of the Committee for the Protection of State Sovereignty Andrei Klimov commented to RT on the statement of the NATO press service that the bombing of Yugoslavia was “necessary and legal.”

The Kosovo precedent “has dramatically changed the modern political geography of Europe,” said Mr. Klimov.

The Russian senator noted that the main point was the illegal nature of the bombing.

"Since there were no sanctions from the UN Security Council, they were not allowed to do this. There is no justification for it. They have undermined the key fundamental principles not only of the UN Charter, but of the entire structure that emerged after the Helsinki Accords of 1975," Klimov added.

In his opinion, that is why today NATO "shamefully tries to disguise all this with beautiful words, but in fact they are committing criminal acts," - the Senator commented.

As recently stated by the NATO press service, 20 years after the bombing of Yugoslavia, the Alliance still considers the operation to be necessary and legal.

The agency also noted that operation "Allied Power" was launched to stop the "humanitarian disaster" in Kosovo.
