Airstrikes by the US-led international coalition in Syria's Deir-ez-Zor province resulted in civilian casualties and injuries, state-run Ikhbariya TV reported, citing local sources.

Earlier, the SANA news agency said that on Saturday (October 13) the coalition carried out airstrikes on the city of Hajin in Deir ez-Zor province, using white phosphorus banned by the International Convention. The news agency did not mention any casualties or injuries.

"White phosphorus is prohibited by international law, especially in residential areas where civilians could be affected. If these data are confirmed, the US must bear responsibility," Kondratiev said.

The Russian senator stressed that what happened requires an international investigation.
