According to information from the DK1 Battalion, Naval Region 2 Command, Senior Lieutenant Duong Van Bac, a radar operator, died on the afternoon of October 6th while on duty inspecting the obstacle system on the docking platform at the DK1/11 (Tu Chinh 3) platform. We were devastated, because a reporter from Nghe An Newspaper had met this enthusiastic "compatriot" Duong Van Bac at the DK1 platform in January 2014.

During our visit to the offshore platform at the beginning of the year, Lieutenant Duong Van Bac shook our hands firmly and took advantage of the short time to greet his "compatriots." He has served on the DK1 offshore platforms for 17 years and has spent 11 Tet holidays out at sea with his comrades.

Two years ago, his father passed away, but due to work commitments and rough seas, there were no ships going ashore, so he couldn't return home to attend the funeral. His colleagues in the unit encouraged and supported him, and he suppressed his grief, fulfilling his duties well. Before the Lunar New Year in 2013, his unit arranged for him to return home for his father's first death anniversary and then return to work at the offshore platform... And he sacrificed his life in the vast ocean. May his soul rest in peace.
