The US Senate approves the Commerce Secretary.
With an overwhelming majority of 97 votes in favor and 1 against, the US Senate approved Chicago billionaire Penny Pritzker on June 25th to serve as the country's Secretary of Commerce.
Expressing his satisfaction with the decision, US President Barack Obama praised Pritzker's capabilities, stating that she is one of the most successful and respected female entrepreneurs today.

He expressed hope that the new Commerce Minister would be a key member of the government's economic management team, aiming to quickly revive the country's economy and improve the lives of the middle class.
The White House leader also hopes that, with her years of experience in the business field, Ms. Pritzker will serve as a bridge between the government and the business community to improve this extensive relationship.
Penny Pritzker, 54, inherited a large fortune from the Hyatt hotel chain and is one of the wealthiest Americans. She chaired the House Finance Committee during President Obama's first presidential campaign in 2008 and then co-chaired the committee four years later during his second campaign.
In addition to the Secretary of Commerce position, the Obama administration is currently awaiting confirmation for a number of other key positions to complete its second cabinet term, including nominations for Secretary of Transportation and the head of the Environmental Protection Agency.
