Ban Ve Hydropower Plant opens 6 floodgates.
Due to the inflow of water into the reservoir reaching 1,300 m3/s, the Ban Ve Hydropower Plant (Tuong Duong, Nghe An) has opened 6 gates to regulate water levels and reduce flooding in the downstream area as directed.
Speaking to reporters, Mr. Ta Huu Hung, Director of Ban Ve Hydropower Plant, said: Due to the impact of Typhoon No. 3 causing heavy rain, on the morning of September 8th, the amount of water flowing into the Ban Ve Hydropower Plant reservoir was 1,300 cubic meters.3"The current reservoir level is 193.4 meters. Therefore, the company is currently regulating water to reduce flooding in the downstream area as directed by the province."

Currently, the plant is discharging at a rate of 670m³.3/s, including discharge through the spillway of 500m3/s, discharge through turbine unit 170m3/s and open all 6 gates, an increase of 4 gates compared to the previous day. The opening will continue until the water flow rate is below 1,000m³.3The /s will gradually close to accumulate water and operate according to regulations.

Earlier, also on September 5, 2024, the Provincial Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention, Search and Rescue and Civil Defense issued an operational order to Ban Ve Hydropower Company.
Specifically, the order instructs the Director of Ban Ve Hydropower Company to operate the Ban Ve Hydropower Reservoir and release water downstream at a flow rate greater than the inflow of floodwaters into the reservoir, gradually lowering the water level to the regulated elevation of 193m. The order is to be implemented at 8 PM on September 5, 2024. The discharge flow through the structure will be 400m³.3/s to under 1,000m3/S.

To proactively respond and minimize damage during the period when the Ban Ve Hydropower Plant operates to reduce flooding downstream, the Standing Office of the Provincial Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention, Search and Rescue, and Civil Defense requests that units and localities inform the government, people, organizations operating on and along the river; aquaculture facilities on the river, water transport vehicles; ferry crossings; and production, business, and sand and gravel mining activities about the hydropower reservoir's water release information so that they can proactively take preventive measures to ensure the safety of people and property.
Review flood control plans to ensure safety for downstream areas, especially the dike system and densely populated areas along the riverbanks, in order to be ready to respond.

Directing information and communication agencies to increase the duration and frequency of news coverage on various media, especially the radio systems in wards, communes, and towns, regarding the release of water from reservoirs; and coordinating with specialized agencies to guide people and relevant agencies and units on flood prevention skills to implement response measures and minimize damage caused by reservoir water releases.
Ban Ve Hydropower Plant is the largest hydropower project in the North Central region, located in Tuong Duong district, Nghe An province. Construction began on December 26, 2005, after damming the river. By 2010, the plant was connected to the national power grid.
The Ban Ve hydroelectric power plant provides water for domestic use, agricultural production, salinity control, and flood control for the downstream area of the Ca River. The Ban Ve hydroelectric reservoir has a surface area of 8,700 km².2Located within the boundaries of four communes: Huu Khuong, Mai Son, Nhon Mai, and Yen Na. The dam's crest length is 509 m, and its maximum height is 137 m.
