The world's richest billionaire spent nearly 1,000 billion VND to build a 100-century clock
After beating Bill Gates to become the world's richest man, Jeff Bezos has spent $42 million to build a 10,000-year project. With a budget of $42 million, he hollowed out a mountain in Texas to build a mechanical clock that will run for 100 centuries.
Jeff Bezos - the richest billionaire in the world.
This clock comes from Danny Hillis, who came up with the idea of a 10,000-year clock in 1995 as a way to think about the distant future of humanity and the planet. That idea evolved into“Clock of the Long Now”, a project of the Long Now Foundation – an organization Hillis co-founded to create a real clock capable of running for 10,000 years.
Hillis has built several prototypes of the clock, but Bezos' clock will be the first full-size, fully functioning one. The Long Now Foundation team has spent several years manufacturing the clock's components and hollowing out the mountain to house them. Now, Bezos announced that they have begun installing the clock's components.
Once completed, the 152-meter-tall clock will be open to visitors. Visitors will get a bird's-eye view of the clock, although the journey to its installation is not easy. The nearest airport is several hundred kilometers away, and you will have to climb 600 meters to see it.
